OLYMPIC hero Mo Farah today capped an extraordinary year by being crowned Premier Inn Celebrity Dad of the Year 2013. The proud dad of three, who shot to fame when he won two gold medals at last year's Olympic Games scooped a quarter of the vote from the British public.
Celeb Dad of the Year is in its 12th year and 2013 saw thousands of people flocking to the Premier Inn Facebook page to cast their vote. This year the British public voted for a shortlist which included many high achieving sports stars, with an already bulging trophy cabinet, as well as favourites from the world of entertainment.
Mo, doting dad to step daughter Rihanna (7) and twins Aisha and Amani (10 months), fought off stiff competition to triumph over a host of famous dads including last year's winner Gary Barlow, who came in at second place, and two-time winner Peter Andre in third. David Beckham and Paralympic six time gold medalist David Weir received the same number of votes placing them in joint fourth position just ahead of ex premiership footballer Fabrice Muamba. Mo was presented with the award at his training camp in Salt Lake City, USA where he is currently training.
The beaming 30 year-old said: "Wow! This award is definitely sitting alongside my gold medals! It's incredible receiving recognition for my sporting achievements but my family is the most important thing in my life and being recognised for being a good dad is just amazing. The best thing of all is that this is voted for by members of the public. As massive thank you to everyone who voted, this really has topped off a monumental year for me."
