The most popular autumn cities on Instagram

When it comes to areas of the UK that feature highly on Instagram for autumn, Cornwall ranks above all other regions – the county’s stunning coastlines are perfect for warm walks without some of the busier crowds that come in summer. Wales, Yorkshire, Devon and Kent also featured in the top five.

New York tops the list of most popular cities to snap in the autumn, with over 151,000 hashtags. With popular films including When Harry Met Sally and Autumn In New York depicting the city in beautiful autumnal backdrops, it is no wonder so many people want to visit the city as the seasons change.

Following in the top five most popular autumnal cities in the world are Paris, Chicago, Moscow and Seoul.

As summer in the city draws to a close, New York becomes the most popular city in the US for autumn Instagramming, as well as the world. It’s a great time to take a stroll through Central Park or New York Botanical Garden as the colours of the trees begin to turn to beautiful oranges and browns.  In second place, Chicago is another favourite option for autumn snaps, with Seattle, Boston and Miami also making up the top five.

As with the most popular autumnal UK cities, London once again takes the top spot as the most popular city in Europe to visit in autumn. Paris and Moscow also rank highly, with Rome and Berlin completing the top five cities with the most autumnal hashtags.  

In Australia and New Zealand, autumn falls at the same time as the northern hemisphere’s spring, but with warmer climates than back home, it’s still a great time to visit. Melbourne was the most popular autumnal city on Instagram, with 19,423 hashtags, followed closely by Sydney and Perth.

With fantastic weather all year round, autumn is an excellent time to visit the Middle East, as the weather is warm, but is cooler than the sweltering heat of summer. Dubai was the most popular city for autumn visits in the Middle East on Instagram, with Tehran and Kuwait also featuring in the top three.

Autumn is considered the best time to visit South Korea and so it’s no surprise that the most popular autumnal Asian city on Instagram was Seoul. With cool weather and breath-taking foliage, autumn is an extremely photogenic time to visit the city, and the remaining top five cities including Kyoto, Tokyo, Beijing and Shanghai, also present some excellent opportunities for the ‘gram.

Buenos Aires was the most popular South American city for autumn hashtags on Instagram, thanks to the gorgeous trees that line the parks and streets. Other particularly popular cities for this season include Santiago in Chile and Mendoza in Argentina.

Another southern hemisphere continent, Africa offers a huge range of different experiences of autumn from country to country. The most popular autumnal choice in Africa was Cape Town, with mild days remaining throughout March and May, and over 2,000 hashtags on Instagram.
