'Well Done Sharma!'

London based Sharma Faconti has won Premier Inn’s ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award.

Sharma initially joined the Euston Premier Inn team as a Reception Team Member back in May 2012, and along with 14 others commenced her apprenticeship in August 2012 – the same month she won ‘Employee of the Month’ award.

Our supernova apprentice was the first of her peers to finish her training and progressed to complete the Internal Management Development Shooting Stars Bronze programme, which contributed to her promotion as ‘Shift Leader’.

Not one to shy away from a challenge, Sharma also took up the opportunity to chair a group of industry professionals (yep, including the big boys – CEOs, HR Directors) at ‘The Big Conversation’ conference and how they can include more youth into their workforce.

Launched in February 2013, ‘The Big Conversation’ initiative was created by The British Hospitality Association chairman and Premier Inn Managing Director, Patrick Dempsey, with the aim to encourage other hospitality organisations to pledge their support by offering similar work programmes to young people.

Sarah Frost the Cluster General Manager for Euston/Hampstead who nominated Sharma for the award, commented:
"Sharma is a true role model and reflects the positive behaviours expected from our teams. She is an exceptional individual who is absolutely committed to her own self development as well as to the development of others. Her guest scores and support for them is inspirational.”

Of her award, Sharma replied:
“I’m delighted to win the award but I would like to thank all my fellow team members who made me so welcome when I joined last year and have worked with me over the last 14 months. Their help and support has been invaluable so I’m accepting this award on their behalf as well.”

As the UK’s biggest hotel chain, our aim is to champion our talented young people by equipping people like Sharma with the skills, knowledge and confidence to progress within the hospitality industry.

Each year we award 500 apprenticeships (this year we have surpassed this by 200) and aim to hit a target of 50% of all newly created jobs going to unemployed youth.

With a hotel opening every ten days and hopes of reaching 75,000 rooms by 2018, we continue to not only achieve our dreams but also support the dreams of Britain's young people!
