From live animals to lifelike waxworks of celebrities, we’ve picked our top London tourist attractions.

Madame Tussauds: the famous wax museum has loads of life-sized wax figures of celebrities, royals, sports stars, infamous murderers, plus Marie Tussaud herself – the woman who started it all. Ticket prices start from £25.80* (you can save 25% if you book online, or book a Combination Ticket), but children under 4 go free, and their opening times depend on the time of year. The closest Tube station is Baker Street.

The London Eye: currently the world’s fourth largest ferris wheel, but the tallest in Europe, The London Eye is London’s most popular tourist attraction and offers one of the best views of London. It takes 30 minutes to make a full rotation and ticket prices start at £15* (you can save 10% if you book online), but children under 4 go free. The nearest Tube stations are Waterloo, Westminster and Embankment.

The London Dungeon: featuring 20 actors, 18 shows and 3 rides, The London Dungeon gives you an incredible interactive and fun experience, based around gory historical London events. Tickets start at £19.80* for kids (but under 4's go free) and you can save up to 30% if you book online. Opening times vary slightly by day of the week, so it's best to check beforehand. The nearest Tube station is Westminster or Waterloo.

London Zoo: founded in 1828, London Zoo (sometimes called Regent’s Zoo) is the oldest zoo in the world, looking after over 800 species on its grounds. In fact, it was also the first place to ever have a reptile house, insect house and open a public aquarium. Tickets start at £15* for kids (with under 3s going in for free) and a few pennies can be saved if you book online. Go and check out Tiger Territory, observe Gorilla Kingdom and witness the splash at Penguin Beach. London Zoo opens at 10am and closes at 4pm, with last entry at 3pm and, amazingly, is open every single day of the year apart from Christmas Day. The nearest Tube stations are Camden Town and St John’s Wood.

SEA LIFE London Aquarium: from stingrays to sharks, and clownfish to jelly fish, the London Aquarium hosts all sorts of life under the sea. Tickets start at £19.50* for kids (under 3's go free) and it’s open every day from 10am-7pm (with last entry at 6pm). Nearest Tube stations are Waterloo, Embankment or Westminster.
