Fear of missing out

Have you ever had to rush off before the end of a gig to catch the last train? You’re not alone. Our music fan poll revealed that across the country people are missing out on the all-important endings of concerts, often discovering later that it was the best bit!

FOMO nation

FOMO is the Fear Of Missing Out, a modern affliction which causes the sufferer to feel anxious that they‘re missing an amazing experience. Our poll revealed that certain pockets of the country experience FOMO more than others – especially when it comes to missing the end of gigs.

Are you a Londoner who can’t bear the idea of not seeing the encore? Or do you hail from Northern Ireland and take not seeing the full gig in your stride? See how FOMO affects your region on our UK map.

How much do you experience FOMO?

Our research revealed some interesting findings around the differences between men and women’s FOMO. Men admitted they would spend a whopping £2,782.32 to recapture those precious moments they missed out on by leaving early, in comparison to women who would only be willing to part with £202.85.

How at risk are you of experiencing FOMO?

1. Do you check your phone more than 5 times an hour?

2. Do you check your social media feeds more than 5 times an hour in case you miss something?

3. Are you the first person in your group to book their gig or festival tickets?

4. Are you the last one to leave the gig or party?

5. Do you find it difficult to say no if you get invited to something?

6. When it comes to your viewing habits, do you love to binge on box sets of the latest TV shows?

7. Do you often find you’ve double booked yourself by saying yes to more than one invitation?

How many did you say yes to?

5+      You’re a social butterfly – but you can’t be in two places at once! You’re right up there in the FOMO stakes
3-4      Sometimes you say yes, sometimes you say no! You’re medium on the FOMO scale
1-2      When it comes to FOMO, it’s fair to say it’s not something you experience too much – you’re low on the FOMO scale
0         You’re basically immune to FOMO!

Live Legends

What’s the best live show you’ve ever been to? Tricky hey? And with so many brilliant gigs happening across the UK every day, there’s just too many to choose from! Difficult or not, it’s a question we posed to 2,000 music fans - ‘What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?’ After what we can only imagine was a lot of deliberation, the results are in and we can reveal that Take That topped the polls, followed by Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson and Queen.

At last year’s Glastonbury Kanye West famously declared himself ‘the greatest living rock star on the planet’, but funnily enough you didn’t agree. When we asked which artist or band from the past or present would be your ultimate choice to see live – Kanye was nowhere to be seen, despite his Bohemian Rhapsody cover and crane-performing antics.  It was Queen who came out top of that poll. Sorry Kanye.
