Birmingham Hippodrome

Home to the Birmingham Royal Ballet, but hosting a huge variety of other performances, the Hippodrome always offers an entertaining evening out.

There’s been a theatre on the site of the hippodrome since 1895. Over the years this building has been rebuilt and renovated. In 2001 a new exterior hailed the arrival of a performance space and accommodation for the Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Although best known for ballet, the Hippodrome stage has seen a number of West End touring shows, such as Wicked, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Lion King, Mary Poppins and We Will Rock You.

Getting there

Easy to find and centrally located, you’ll have no trouble getting to or from the Hippodrome.

Getting around the venue

With a regular annual attendance of over 600,000, the Hippodrome is the busiest single theatre in the UK. So how do they fit everyone in?

The theatre has 1,935 seats across two tiers – the circle and the stalls – all with a great view. If you book online, you can check the view of the stage from your preferred seating area before making your choice to ensure you’ll catch all the action.

Disabled access

With audio-described, captioned, signed, and relaxed performances, as well as wheelchair positions, the Hippodrome is committed to providing access for all. As well as making sure everyone can enjoy the performance, the theatre also offers concessions for people with access requirements.

Eating and drinking

Situated in the centre of the city, there’s no shortage of options for pre or post theatre dinner or drinks.
