Shopping centres

Right in the heart of the city, just a stone’s throw away from the historic marketplace, Prince Bishop Shopping Centre is Durham’s number one shopping destination with everything from men’s and women’s fashion and accessories to homeware, health and beauty, and tech. Here you’ll find a selection of high street favourites such as H&M, Pandora, JD Sports, Boots and Clarks. And you can drop off your shopping bags back in your room, just a three-minute walk away at our City Centre hotel.

Coming soon to the city is The Riverwalk, a stunning redevelopment that will make the most of the picturesque riverbank and views across the city to the spectacular castle. Opening in 2018, The Riverwalk will bring a new lease of life to the city’s retail and leisure scene, creating a shopping destination unlike anywhere else in the city. New squares and walkways will surround a new hub of high street shops, independent boutique stores, cafés and a cinema, as well as provide a tranquil setting for people to enjoy the sights of the city.

Just two miles away from Durham city centre, and mere metres away from our Durham North hotel, is Arnison Shopping Park. Home to a collection of high street favourites, this outdoor shopping complex has over 20 stores and is Durham’s largest out of town retail destination. You’ll find a Marks and Spencer, Outfit – selling Topshop and Topman, Warehouse, Wallis, Burton, and Miss Selfridge – Nike Outlet, Next, New Look, River Island, Laura Ashley and a large Sainsbury’s.

A little further afield is Dalton Park Outlet Shopping Centre in Murton. A retail juggernaut, with over 60 stores, expect to give up a few hours of your time as you nose through some incredible bargains on big name brands. Just over 20-minutes drive away from our Durham East hotel, the centre has over 1,500 free car parking spaces, so you’re free to load up the car with purchases and then dive right back in. As well as a wide selection of stores, there are lots of quick eat dining options to choose from, a Cineworld cinema and a children’s play area to keep the little ones entertained.
