Scotland is widely considered to be the home of golf. It has some of the world’s finest courses - a number of which are in Edinburgh. Bruntsfield Links is thought to be one of Edinburgh’s best. It’s the fourth oldest in the world and has the bonus of beautiful views across the Firth of Forth. It’s predominantly a members club so non-members should check before visiting. To the east of the city, Duddingston Golf Course is set within stunning parkland that overlooks Holyrood Park. It’s open to non-members as well as members. Only 1.5 miles from Princes Street and just under Arthur’s Seat, Prestonfield is the most central of Edinburgh’s courses. It’s open all year round and welcomes non-members. Merchants of Edinburgh is known as the course for “thinking golfers.” The modern clubhouse is an ample reward for the challenges offered by this reputable course.
The Scots are passionate about rugby so Edinburgh is proud to be the home of the BT Murrayfield Stadium.
The biggest sports stadium in Scotland, it’s where Scottish Rugby Union plays its home games. When it isn’t hosting Pro12 and Heineken Cup matches, Edinburgh Rugby (Edinburgh’s rugby union team) plays its home games here.
If you’re visiting Edinburgh to watch a rugby match, you’ll be pleased to know that Murrayfield stadium is about a 15-minute drive west of the city centre or else you can get there by tram or bus.
Tynecastle Stadium belongs to Edinburgh’s premiership football team, Hearts FC (officially known as the Heart of Midlothian FC).
