"⭐⭐ Great Location, but Disastrous Service and Zero Maintenance"
We stayed at the hub by Premier Inn Edinburgh Royal Mile for a total of four nights (one night at the start of our trip, and three nights a week later). While the lobby and café look nice and the location is undeniably convenient to the Royal Mile and most city attractions, the rest of the hotel is severely lacking. It feels like all maintenance stopped 5 to 10 years ago.
The Rooms & Cleanliness:
Both rooms we stayed in were visibly dirty. There was mold in the bathrooms, the outside mirrors looked like they had never been cleaned, the carpets throughout the hotel were filthy, and the window shades were tattered and broken in the down position. Compounding the issue, both rooms had an incessant, loud dripping noise coming from the A/C unit that made sleeping extremely difficult, alongside the constant sound of running water from above that sounded like a toilet overflowing.
While we knew the rooms would be tiny, the layout makes no sense. There are literally no shelves or hooks to place your luggage or belongings. The hotel signage encourages you to reuse your towels to save the environment—a policy we completely support—but there are absolutely no hooks or towel racks to hang them up to dry! Furthermore, we were only given one hand towel and one bath towel (and no washcloths). When we asked, the front desk told us housekeeping usually only stocks rooms for single occupancy, meaning couples have to manually request a basic second set.
Flawed Technology:
The control panel behind the bed is poorly designed. The light button controls both sides of the bed simultaneously, meaning if one person wants to read while the other sleeps, both lights must stay on. Additionally, if you sit up in bed with pillows, your shoulders easily bump the panel; we think this is why our "Do Not Disturb" light kept constantly shutting itself off. As for the "Smart TV," it feels 15 years old with no cable and only about a dozen local news, sports, and reality channels. On our second visit, we even had to manually fix our bedding because a king-sized duvet had just been shoved clumsily sideways into the cover.
Staff & Front Desk Failures:
The service here was incredibly frustrating. On our first day, we arrived at 7:30 a.m. A young woman at reception told us we could check in early at 11:00 a.m. for an extra £15, so we stored our luggage. Yet when we returned at 11:00, she told us we actually couldn't check in early because we booked through a third party like Expedia. She eventually allowed it, but it begs the question: why weren't we told that hours earlier?
Our second check-in was even worse due to an extremely rude and incompetent male employee. He was actively chatting on the phone with his girlfriend and completely ignored us. When a helpful female colleague tried to get to the computer to check us in, he refused to move out of the way, literally stating, "I'm talking to my girlfriend," as if his personal call took priority over paying guests. The female employee was clearly as irritated by his lack of professionalism as we were.
The Café:
Even breakfast was poorly managed. There is a prominent sign reading "Wait to be seated," but if you actually comply and wait, you will go hungry because the staff completely ignores it and no one will ever come to seat you.
This property clearly used to be a nice hotel, but a total lack of upkeep and highly unprofessional front-desk staff completely ruined the experience. We won’t be back.

"Would not recommend. Had to move rooms and then to another hotel"
Awful hotel, dirty, stained and dusty. Noisy AC and faulty TV. Offered a second room which was no better.
The staff were not great. No manager on site and no ability to offer any resolution to the issues.
Could not stay here so we moved to the Premier Inn next door but one. I can’t believe they are the same company. No refund offered so will have to take that up separately. Wasted hours of our trip to Edinburgh. Couldn’t believe it was £175 to stay in dirt.

"Recommendable for 1-2 night-stay"
Location is great. Breakfast is very very poor. The room was too small but enough for a short stay. The price is not expensive.

"Badly set up"
Stated here for the night as we had a concert to go to so we booked an early check in. Trailed across Edinburgh city centre for said ‘early check in’ only to be told although we’d booked one - it wasn’t guaranteed and they had nothing available until normal check in at 3. So we trailed back over the city to do shopping and came back. It just wasted so much time of our trip going backwards and forwards. If early rooms aren’t available then they shouldn’t be offered. When 3pm came it was a mad dash to the front counter to check in as there were 50+ people all waiting to be checked in at the same time. I can only presume they thought they were getting early check in also. The whole process is chaos. One reception desk and only one self check in working. Customers getting annoyed at the time it all took. That said, the room is compact and you know what to expect.
