It’s never been easier to get to and from Taunton. It’s a traditional town with great connections to the rest of the country. It means you can be on the Levels in the morning and pretty much anywhere in Britain by the evening. Being located just off Junction 25 of the M5 makes driving around Taunton easy. But with two international airports nearby, a historic railway station and busy bus station, you’re never short of travel options.
Getting around Taunton
The nearest major airport is Exeter International Airport, 35 miles from the centre of Taunton. Our closest hotel to Exeter Airport is Premier Inn Exeter (M5 J29), only 10 minutes’ drive away. There’s only one airport terminal, but you can travel to a wide range of mostly European holiday destinations – whether you want a city break in Paris or Amsterdam, or to soak up some rays on the beaches of Corfu or Lanzarote. You can also get around the UK from Exeter Airport, with FlyBe operating flights to and from ten destinations. Or, if you’re looking to fly further afield you can book onward tickets to the rest of the world via a change at Manchester, London, Dublin or Paris.
38 miles in the opposite direction, your other option is Bristol Airport. Formerly an RAF airfield, it’s now a base for airlines including EasyJet, Ryanair, Thomas Cook, and TUI Airways. You can fly to over 100 destinations from Bristol – 12 in the UK, the vast majority of Europe, and other destinations around the rest of the world like Marrakech and Cancun. We have plenty of hotels near Bristol Airport if you’re looking for a place to stay before your flight.

Head north from the town centre and you’ll come to Taunton Railway Station that’s served the travel needs of people from these parts since 1842. Today, it acts as a junction station between London Paddington and Penzance, and can take you to the capital in under two hours using their primary operators Great Western Railway. CrossCountry trains will also help you travel directly from Taunton to other major train stations around Britain including Manchester Piccadilly, Edinburgh Waverley and Bristol Temple Meads.
You can find Taunton Bus Station in the heart of the town centre, on Tower Street, near the meander of the river. National Express coaches from across the country come and go from the station via 12 different routes, including London. It’ll take four to four and a half hours for you to get from the bus station here in Taunton to London’s Victoria Coach Station, but you can’t really argue with that when tickets begin from a measly £7. If you’re looking to travel more locally then The Buses of Somerset will help you get to wherever you need to be, via nearly 40 First Bus routes in the area. Unlimited travel with a day pass will set you back £11.
