You can literally bounce off the walls at Gravity Force Sunderland. Escape Rooms have truly taken over the UK as the activity du jour for birthday parties, team building and even speed dating! Clue HQ is Sunderland’s contribution to the live escape game landscape, where teams of between three and six people race against the clock to solve a series of clues and puzzles to unlock the door before 60 minutes is up. Here, you can choose between three game scenarios – Bunker 38, Cell Block C, and The Vault – with an increasing level of difficulty, the rooms use lighting and smoke effects to create a lifelike, visceral environment that will have you completely immersed in the task at hand.

If you’re more Mission Impossible than MacGyver, you can try your hand at Laser Quest. Enter a digital battle zone where you’ll have to duck and dodge your opponents to notch up points over 20-minute sessions. Up to 20 players can be in the ring at any one time, each kitted out with a sensor body pack and a laser shooter. It won’t take long for you to suspend your disbelief and the adrenaline to kick in as you stalk your prey along catwalks and through mazes amidst the swirling fog.

Just 10 minutes’ walk from our City Centre hotel, Empire Cinema Sunderland is the perfect place to catch the latest flicks on the silver screen. Playing everything from the big blockbusters, 3D mega-releases to indie darlings across its 12 screens, the Empire has a raft of offers to make cinema-going a little more easy on the pocket. On Off-peak Monday you can save £1 on tickets across the board and on Saver Tuesdays you can grab an adult ticket for just under £5. Located in the Sunniside Leisure Park, the cinema is within easy reach of a Frankie and Benny’s and a Nando’s for a pre- or post-movie feed.
