Etihad Stadium goes by several different names, including Eastlands and City of Manchester Stadium, and is not to be confused with the other Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. But, as you’re in Manchester, you’ll know that this particular venue is home ground to Manchester City FC, which moved from Maine Road in 2003. Originally built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the stadium is home to around 55,000 seats. Not just a football ground, the stadium has hosted rugby games, boxing matches and concerts by Coldplay and The Stone Roses.
If you’re coming to The Etihad for a game, booking into a Manchester hotel means you can make a weekend of it. And located right in the heart of Manchester is the Manchester Piccadilly Premier Inn hotel.

Manchester City tour
Walk in the footsteps of your favourite City players, with a tour of Etihad Stadium. Take a moment in the manager’s shoes, be it yelling from the dugout or under fire in the press room, and relish the walk of glory as you ‘do’ the famous tunnel. You can even take the tour with a club legend, which includes VIP lunch with your Manchester City host and your chance to ask every burning question. After, carry on the experience with a trip around the exhibition to have a sneak peek at the future plans for the Club as well as its heritage.
Behind the scenes
For that extra buzz of excitement, you can book a tour of Etihad Stadium on match day, just hours before a game, or on Friday night, with the whole place flooded in lights. Whichever tour you choose, it’ll include a good browse of some unique memorabilia and interactive displays, plus plenty of time to visit the City club shop.
