If you’re on a shopping trip to Liverpool with the family (or with a group of friends with some seriously diverse interests) it can be hard to keep everyone happy. But there’s no excuse for splitting up and going your separate ways if you head to Liverpool ONE. With more than 160 high street stores occupying its beautifully designed outdoor streets, it offers everything from Lego to bubble tea. There’s also a cinema, an indoor adventure golf course and all manner of restaurants on its outdoor roof terrace. It even has its own park! Chavasse Park is five acres of landscaped gardens, perfect for a picnic or to rest your shop-weary legs in a deckchair.
Liverpool had much to celebrate in 2008. Not only was it the city’s year as European Capital of Culture, it also saw the opening of Liverpool ONE, a shopping destination that considerably boosted the regeneration of the city centre. The £1 billion development was built by the Duke of Westminster's Grosvenor Estate in 45 acres around Paradise Street, and its mix of shopping, hotels, restaurants and public space has proved spectacularly popular. And forget street after street of samey looking shops. Each store was created by a different architect, making it a hard project to manage during its development, but the stunning finished effect is well worth the effort. The history of Liverpool is embedded in the very architecture here – local materials were used to make it blend with the buildings that surround it.

Whether you want a romantic lunch for two or something more family friendly, pretty much every taste is catered for here. Every major food chain is represented, along with a few more alternative cafes and restaurants. Or just grab a takeaway and eat it in Chavasse Park!
Accessibility
Along with all the excellent disabled facilities you’d expect from such a state-of-the-art building, such as toilets, lifts and parking bays, Shopmobility are on hand, offering a full service for people with access issues from their centre located on the third floor of the Liverpool ONE car park.
Getting around Liverpool One
While finding your way around the shopping centre is easy, it is big and you may find it hard to see everything in just one day. For maps or any questions, the Liverpool ONE Information Centre is located on Wall Street. The centre is split into six different areas, built around existing Liverpool streets. Each one is a mixture of retail, leisure and food and drink options.
Hanover Street
This is an informal district for homeware shops and street markets. There’s a Premier Inn at Hanover Street too, so you won’t have far to stagger back with all of your purchases.
Peter’s Lane
The home of designer shopping in Liverpool, you’ll find all the big-name brands clustered together in Peter’s Lane. There’s everything from Reiss and Hobbs to Karen Millen here.
Manesty’s Lane
This is where you’ll find Beauty Bazaar, Harvey Nichols - Liverpool’s one-stop destination for all things beauty. It has make-up counters, a Champagne bar and even its own spa.
Paradise Street
A wide, pedestrianised street, you’ll find a 14-screen ODEON and the ever popular Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf – with its two 18-hole mini golf courses and incredible special effects.
South John Street
This is at the heart of the Liverpool ONE shopping area, with two levels of high street shops, anchored with department stores John Lewis and Debenhams at either end.
The Park
When you need a breather, head to Chavasse Park. Lined with restaurants, there’s a pop- up lake with picnic boats and plenty of deckchairs if you need to recharge your batteries.
Top tip
Lots of people visiting Liverpool ONE expect it to be like most gleaming UK malls – covered from the elements! However, all the shopping streets are outdoors, so make sure you bring a brolly if it rains. Also, if you have young children with you, go for the Liverpool ONE car park beneath Chavasse Park. It has parent and child spaces and a free buggy loan service so you don’t even need to bring your own.
Getting around Liverpool One
Right at the heart of the city, getting to Liverpool ONE is a breeze. But if car, bus, train (or even ferry) sound far too much like hard work, there’s also a Premier Inn hotel nearby to get your shopping break off to a good start.
By car
If you’re driving, simply follow the signs to the City Centre and the Albert Dock. Once you get there you’ll find lots of parking, with 3,000 spaces spread across three sites – Liverpool ONE, John Lewis and Hanover Street. The car parks are open 24 hours, so no need to rush back, either.
By bus
Liverpool ONE is accessible by public transport. All main bus routes stop here or nearby at Queen Square bus station. It’s less than half a mile from Liverpool Lime Street and you could even get here if you’re taking a ferry across the Mersey – it’s just a short walk from the Albert Dock.
Walking
Trying to get your 10,000 steps in? You may be out of luck, as Liverpool ONE is so close to everything! The shopping centre is no more than 20 minutes by foot from any transport facility, plus there’s a well-lit pedestrian link from here to the Waterfront.
By bike
Liverpool’s Citybikes can be hired from 100 different hire stations all over the city. If you have your own two wheels, you can park them on-street at Paradise Street or in the centre’s state-of-the-art cycle store, with its 50 cycle bays, CCTV and 24-hour access.
