Nightlife in Cologne

The high pulse rate in Cologne's old town does not take a break even at night. The night owls will find tons of offers for fun and entertainment in the numerous bars, clubs or discos or just a nice bar to have a Kölsch with friends. Until the early morning hours, the cathedral city shows a particularly hospitable and cheerful, cosmopolitan face in the narrow streets of the old town - as you would expect from a cultural metropolis.

Clubs in Cologne

The boathouse on the shipyard in Cologne opened in 1991 as a "warehouse" and is considered one of the founding places of techno culture in Germany. The club has three rooms and an outdoor area. There is space for 1,000 people on the main floor. Equipped with excellent sound and light systems and skilfully orchestrated by well-known DJs, the techno party takes place here. In the scene, the club is considered one of the best in Germany.

In the north of Cologne, the artist Odo Rumpf has created a literally unconventional event location called Odonia . With bizarre metal sculptures, a large find, a planted beer garden and an open-air stage, he created a very special place for concerts, theater performances, flea markets, open-air cinema, parties or art festivals. In summer, the extensive sculpture park with beer garden is a bizarre-looking event backdrop with morbid charm.

The stylish  night flight is one of the established greats of Cologne nightlife in Cologne. With unusual events such as "I'm celebrating", "Striptease" and "Gang Bang Night", the club brings its mainly young audience into a high-spirited dance and party mood from 10 p.m. The dress code is called "No Sneakers" and is also consistently checked by the bouncers. So you can't get in here with sportswear.

If you are looking for a classy party location in Cologne's old town, the Diamonds Club is the right place for you. People dance and celebrate in a luxurious atmosphere. To ensure that the guests also fit in, the doormen pay attention to the cloakroom at the entrance. From time to time, celebrities such as Lothar Matthäus are guests, who are then invited to the VIP area.

The Electrum Club stands for extraordinary parties in Cologne's nightlife. The club is divided into three rooms and a terrace. Anyone who passes through the doorman has access to all areas that meet different needs. While you can party in the Electrum and in the lounge with good sound, you can find the more cozy side of the club in the Smoking Room and on the terrace: Here you can chill, relax and have a chat.

The Vanity at the Hohenzollernring in Cologne is a mixed concept of a dignified restaurant and a club one floor below with an elegant ambience: Dinner & Dance. Correspondingly, evening wear is popular as a clothing style. So if you want to dine in a pretty restaurant and celebrate in style in the evening with hip dance music, you've come to the right place.

The name Heinz Gaul is not a horse name but a trendy party location in Cologne with an old factory hall aesthetic. For a predominantly young mixed audience, DJs play electro and trash pop on two floors in the heart of Ehrenfeld until the early hours of the morning. The Factory Hall Club always gets top marks for this.

Cologne parties

In a metropolis on the Rhine, it is obvious that party ships also dock here on the banks . 90s parties shouldn't be missing in Cologne anyway. Do you already know the boathouse? Where are the hotspots of the gay and lesbian scene?

Regular partygoers are also familiar with the Goa parties taking place nationwide . What emerged from the earlier "Love-and-Peace" hippie movement is now a party style with trance music and matching light effects. The dark side of these parties is the consumption of drugs in order to support the aim of reviving the senses, which the partygoers are aiming for. Commercial party organizers have differentiated themselves from this and offer drug-free Goa parties - also in Cologne. One of them is the unconventional Odonia in Cologne's Neuehrenfeld district.

"Dancing salsa is high without drugs," says the friends of this Latin American music and dance genre, which has also found many fans in Germany. Because salsa dancing stands for relaxation, joie de vivre and community. Attributes that also go very well with Cologne. A number of clubs regularly organize salsa parties, so you can go salsa somewhere else almost every evening.

The best breweries in Cologne

If you appreciate the typical rustic atmosphere of a Cologne brewery and the good traditional cuisine of the Cologne brewery tradition, start near the old market in Cologne's old town. Here you will find the Peters Brauhaus . Hearty international cuisine has been offered in the quaint Cologne restaurant since 1994 in addition to its own Peters Kölsch. Even if this brewery is not one of the oldest, the typical wooden furnishings and the historical murals create a cozy brewery atmosphere based on historical models.

The birthplace of the Reissdorf Kölsch can be found at the Alten Brauhaus in Severinstrasse. Every day from 12 noon there is good home-style cuisine with all of Cologne's brewery classics. Because the brewery is always very busy during mealtimes, a reservation is recommended.

Immediately next to the Cologne landmark there is rustic Cologne hospitality in the Früh am Dom brewery . The brewery on the ground floor and the brewery cellar with its medieval vault have been one of the best-known Cologne brewery institutions with their own brewery since it was founded in 1904. The famous Früh Kölsch is brewed here. Typical Cologne dishes are served on the brightly scrubbed tables.

The roots of the Sion brewery in the heart of Cologne can be traced back to the Middle Ages. The delicious Sion Kölsch is just five minutes' walk from Cologne Central Station, between the cathedral and the old market. The brewery has been run by the Sion brewery dynasty for four generations and is one of the most beautiful breweries in Germany after the renovation in 2012. Relaxed eating in cozy "classless" company is part of the Brauhaus Sion program.
