The route:

Thanks to the short ride time and low-traffic Taff Trail, this breezy 40-minute route is perfect for family-friendly cycling in Cardiff. Starting off in Bute Park – near Cardiff’s Principality Stadium – you’ll cycle through scenic woodland and up along the River Taff. Once you’ve passed the Blackweir Fields, join National Cycle Route 8. Following this path, you and the kids will pass through Hailey Park, and then residential Melingriffith. You’ll cycle by the Melingriffith Water Pump, a small but historic monument that’s worth pulling over for. Continue on Route 8, parallel to the River Taff on your left; to your right will be the Forest Farm Country Park. Pass the Forest Farm Industrial Estate, and take the underpass on Iron Bridge Road beneath the A470. Ride along Mill Road by the Tongwynlais Village Hall, before joining Castle Road. After that, there’s just a slight uphill ride between you and Castell Coch.
