FAQs
Anfield is one of the most iconic football stadiums in the world and home to Liverpool Football Club. The stadium has a rich history dating back to 1884 and has hosted some of the most memorable moments in football. It’s more than just a sports venue; for many, it’s a symbol of pride and community spirit in Liverpool.
The name “Anfield” comes from the area of Liverpool where the stadium is located. Originally, the land was part of Anfield House, a grand estate in the 19th century. The name itself is believed to be derived from “Annefield” or “Enfield,” possibly referencing links to other locations with similar names, though the exact origin is debated. When the stadium was built in the 1880s, it simply took on the name of the local district, Anfield.
Yes, absolutely – especially if you’re a football fan. Even if you're not a Liverpool supporter, the Anfield Stadium Tour is well worth doing. You can explore the home and away dressing rooms, walk through the famous tunnel and sit in the dugout. The LFC Story Museum inside the stadium is packed with memorabilia and stories of football legends. On non-match days, you get behind-the-scenes access you wouldn’t otherwise get. And on match days? Expect electrifying energy!
There isn’t a train station right next to Anfield, so the closest major station is Liverpool Lime Street in the city centre. From there, it’s around a 10–15 minute drive or a short bus or taxi ride to the stadium. On match days, special shuttle buses usually run between Lime Street and Anfield. Some people also use Kirkdale Station, which is a little closer (about a 20-minute walk), especially if you’re travelling in from nearby areas.
