FAQs
St Pancras is most famous for its Victorian architecture and as the home of the Eurostar terminal, connecting London to Paris, Brussels and beyond. The station is often seen as one of the most beautiful railway stations in the world, thanks to the iconic red-brick Gothic hotel frontage, the Barlow train shed roof and its impressive restoration.
The two names are often used interchangeably, but technically: St Pancras International refers to the part of the station that serves Eurostar trains to Europe, while St Pancras station covers the whole site, including domestic train services to cities like Nottingham, Sheffield and Brighton. Essentially, the international bit is just one section of the wider station.
Absolutely! Even if you’re not catching a train, it’s worth visiting just to admire the architecture. Inside you’ll find the impressive arched roof, statues like The Meeting Place sculpture and the famous Dent clock. There’s also a great mix of shops, restaurants and bars, so you can easily spend a couple of hours exploring. Many people pop in just to see the building or enjoy a meal before heading off to explore nearby King’s Cross or the British Library.
St Pancras is huge, it has 15 platforms in total, spread across international, domestic and underground services. The station stretches over several levels and is more than just a travel hub, it’s also home to one of the longest champagne bars in Europe and plenty of retail space. The vast glass-and-iron roof is over 100 feet high, which was record-breaking when it was built in the 19th century.
Yes, plenty! From grab-and-go snacks to sit-down meals, St Pancras has something for every taste and budget. You’ll find bakeries, coffee shops, pubs, fine dining spots and even luxury treats like champagne and oysters. Whether you’re after a quick breakfast before a train or a long lunch while people-watching, the station is full of food options.
Not quite – while many assume St Pancras was used, the Harry Potter films actually featured King’s Cross station next door, with the famous Platform 9¾. However, St Pancras’s grand exterior is often mistaken for King’s Cross in films and photos, so it still has that cinematic connection.
There’s loads to do nearby. Just across the road is King’s Cross, home to the Harry Potter shop and photo spot at Platform 9¾. The British Library is a short walk away, perfect for history and literature lovers. Head towards Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard for trendy restaurants, bars, and boutique shops, or stroll along Regent’s Canal for a quieter escape. You’re also only a short hop on the tube to places like Camden Market, Covent Garden or the West End.
St Pancras is packed with facilities to make travel smooth and comfortable. There are ticket offices, currency exchange desks, luggage storage, toilets (including baby-changing and accessible facilities), cash machines and free Wi-Fi throughout. Shoppers will love the mix of high-street and luxury stores, while travellers can take advantage of the Eurostar check-in areas, waiting lounges and plenty of food and drink spots.
