FAQs
Bermondsey is famous for its industrial heritage, especially in leather tanning, food processing and biscuit manufacturing. It was once nicknamed the “Larder of London” and “Biscuit Town” thanks to its thriving provisions trade and factories like Peek Frean. Today, it’s known for the Bermondsey Beer Mile, a stretch of railway arches filled with craft breweries and for its art and fashion scene, including the Fashion and Textile Museum. Bermondsey also has deep historical roots, with landmarks like Bermondsey Abbey, St Mary Magdalen Church and King Edward III’s manor house.
Bermondsey is in southeast London, within the London Borough of Southwark. It sits just a couple of miles southeast of Charing Cross, bordered by Southwark to the west, Rotherhithe to the east and the River Thames to the north. It’s part of Greater London and has excellent transport links, making it easy to reach from central London.
Bermondsey is a fairly large and lively part of southeast London. It’s made up of several neighbourhoods including North Bermondsey, South Bermondsey and London Bridge & West Bermondsey.
