Edinburgh Airport is only a 20-minute drive from Edinburgh City Centre, one of the most famous cities for culture and comedy in the world. Edinburgh is the home of the legendary Fringe Festival, Edinburgh University is one of the top universities in the UK and Edinburgh is surrounded by scenic landscapes and Pentland Hills Regional Park.
Edinburgh Airport is open 24 hours a day, though visitors may be moved as parts of the airport close and most shops shut through the night.
There are no designated sleeping areas at Edinburgh Airport, and the benches and cold floors aren’t recommended for a good night’s rest. If you book at our Premier Inn airport hotels near Edinburgh Airport instead, you can look forward to a much comfier stay. By car
Edinburgh Airport is just a five-minute drive from the M9 and about 20 minutes from Edinburgh City Centre. There’s free drop-offs and pick-ups at Edinburgh Airport in the mid-stay car park. Drop-off and pick-up at the terminal costs £4 for up to 10-minutes, £8 for 10-15 minutes with additional charges after that time. Many of our hotels have short term on-site parking with good bus routes directly to Edinburgh Airport.
By train
Trains run between most Edinburgh stations and Edinburgh Airport every seven minutes. There are connections from Edinburgh Gateway, Edinburgh Park, Haymarket and Edinburgh Waverley to Fife, Peth, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow, Falkirk, London and many other destinations. Our Edinburgh Park (Airport) hotel is very close to Edinburgh Park station with direct tram services to Edinburgh Airport. The TransPennine Express connects Edinburgh Airport to Manchester Airport, and LNER services connect to London Kings Cross via the East Coast main line.
By bus
Airlink 100 buses run from St Andrew Square in Edinburgh City Centre to Edinburgh Airport every 12 minutes during the day, with a journey time of about 30 minutes. Skylink 200 services run to Ocean Terminal via Newhaven, Skylink 300 services run to Surgeons’ Hall via west Edinburgh and Skylink 400 services run via Oxgangs and Edinburgh PARK to Fort Kinnaird, all with a journey time of between 50 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes.
Regular bus and National Express coach services also run from Glasgow, Fife, Dundee and Stirling with a journey time of about an hour. The Megabus M20 service runs between Newcastle and Edinburgh Airport and takes around three hours.
By tram
Trams depart from Edinburgh City Centre to Edinburgh Airport every 15 minutes with a journey time of around 30 minutes. The tram runs from York Place and St Andrew Square station directly outside Edinburgh Airport’s main terminal. The tram passes through Edinburgh Park station, which is opposite our Edinburgh Park (Airport) hotel.
