FAQs
Central Scotland is home to a mix of lively towns and peaceful countryside spots. Some of the most well-known towns include Stirling, Falkirk, Alloa, Dunblane and Linlithgow. You'll also find towns like Bridge of Allan, Grangemouth and Callander sitting right on the edge of the Trossachs. These towns each have their own character – from historic castles and canals to pretty high streets and local markets – and they make great bases for exploring the wider area.
Central Scotland generally refers to the area between Glasgow and Edinburgh, stretching out to include parts of the Forth Valley and parts of Perthshire and Stirlingshire. It’s the heart of the country geographically and includes key towns like Stirling and Falkirk, as well as smaller communities dotted around lochs, hills and rivers. It’s a great location if you’re looking to explore both the Highlands and the Lowlands without having to travel too far in either direction.
Edinburgh and Glasgow are the two major cities that sit just outside the centre and both are less than an hour’s drive from many central towns. Perth to the north also feels close by, especially from Stirling or Dunblane. Because of the transport links in this region, it’s really easy to base yourself in a central town and do day trips to several cities without too much driving or train travel.
