FAQs
Yes, Falkirk is absolutely worth visiting! It’s packed with unique attractions, fascinating history and great scenery. The town sits right between Edinburgh and Glasgow, and it offers some of Scotland’s most impressive landmarks – like The Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. Whether you’re into art, engineering or just want a relaxing day out with beautiful views, Falkirk has something for everyone.
Falkirk is best known for two iconic landmarks: The Kelpies – the world’s largest equine sculptures standing at 30 metres tall – and the Falkirk Wheel, a unique rotating boat lift that connects the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. The town also has historical significance, with the Battle of Falkirk being a key event in Scottish history and Callendar House, a beautiful French chateau-style mansion, which tells the story of the town’s past.
Falkirk is more of a medium-sized town. It’s not a huge city, but it’s certainly bigger than your typical small town. That means it’s got plenty of things to do, places to eat and shops to explore, but it still has an easy-going atmosphere that’s great for a relaxed visit.
Falkirk has several sister towns, but the most prominent is Creteil in France, located just outside Paris. This twinning promotes cultural exchange and friendship between the two areas. Falkirk has also had links with towns in the United States and China over the years.
Falkirk has a good mix of high street favourites and local independents. The main shopping areas are Howgate Shopping Centre and Callendar Square, where you’ll find fashion, beauty, homeware and gift shops. The town centre also has plenty of independent stores, cafes, and markets, making it a nice place to browse and pick up something unique.
No, Falkirk doesn’t have a beach – it’s located inland, between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Clyde. However, you’re not too far from the coast. If you fancy a seaside outing, places like Bo’ness or South Queensferry offer waterfront views and are only about a 30-minute drive away.
Yes, Falkirk offers a lively but laid-back nightlife scene. You’ll find cosy pubs, stylish cocktail bars and a few clubs for dancing. There are also some great spots for live music and events, plus a cinema and theatre for more relaxed evenings. Whether you’re looking for a casual drink or something more upbeat, there’s a decent variety to choose from.
Start your day with a visit to The Kelpies – they’re stunning in the morning light, and the nearby Helix Park is perfect for a walk. Then head to the Falkirk Wheel for a boat ride and a coffee at the cafe. In the afternoon, explore Callendar House and its beautiful grounds, or stroll along the Union Canal. Wrap up the day in the town centre with some shopping or dinner at a local restaurant. There’s plenty to fill a full day, whether you’re into culture, history, nature or just soaking up the atmosphere.
