Camberley is known for being a well-connected town with a strong military history and a relaxed, suburban feel. It’s home to the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where British Army officers train, which is just on the edge of the town. Camberley is also recognised for its easy links to London and the surrounding countryside, making it popular with commuters and weekend visitors alike. In recent years, it's become known for its growing arts scene, with venues like Camberley Theatre hosting everything from comedy to musicals and family shows.
Yes, Camberley is definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re looking for a low-key day out with easy access to both shopping and green spaces. The town centre has a good mix of restaurants, cafes and places to shop, while nearby areas like Frimley Lodge Park and Lightwater Country Park are great for a walk or picnic. Whether you’re passing through or staying nearby, Camberley makes a great stop for a bit of retail therapy, some downtime in nature or a meal out.
No, Camberley isn’t part of London, although it’s not too far away. It’s located in Surrey, near the borders with Hampshire and Berkshire. It sits just outside the Greater London area, and while it’s within commuting distance (around an hour to London by train), it definitely has its own identity and more of a small-town feel.
Camberley is a town, not a city. It’s part of the Surrey Heath borough in Surrey and has all the features of a well-developed town – good transport, shopping, leisure centres and green spaces. The town has grown over the years but still feels very manageable and friendly.
Yes, Camberley has its own train station, right in the town centre. It’s served by South Western Railway, with direct trains to places like Ascot and Guildford, and connections to London via nearby hubs like Woking or Farnborough. If you’re staying in town, it’s a great base for exploring the wider region without needing to drive.
Camberley is surrounded by a mix of nature, history and lively nearby towns. You’ve got the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst just minutes away, and great green spaces like Swinley Forest, Lightwater Country Park and Virginia Water Lake within easy reach. Nearby towns include Farnborough, known for its aviation history, and Ascot, famous for the racecourse. Windsor and its iconic castle are also about a 30-minute drive away, so there’s plenty to explore nearby whether you're into nature, heritage or family-friendly attractions.
There’s a great variety of things to do in Camberley. If you’re into the arts, the Camberley Theatre hosts live performances, films and events throughout the year. For families, there’s Gravity trampoline park and Tenpin bowling, both in The Square shopping centre area. If you fancy a walk, Frimley Lodge Park is nearby with open green spaces, a miniature railway and a playground. There’s also a leisure centre with a swimming pool, plus golf courses and woodland walks in the surrounding area. It’s not a packed tourist town, but there’s more than enough for a relaxed and enjoyable day out or weekend stay.
Yes, Camberley is a solid spot for shopping. The main shopping hub is The Square, which has a mix of high street favourites, fashion, beauty and tech stores. Around the town centre, you’ll also find independent shops, cafes and regular market stalls. There’s a large retail park nearby too with big-name brands and supermarkets, so whether you're after clothes, gifts or everyday essentials, you won’t be short on choice.
