Yes, Farnborough is definitely worth a visit, especially if you're interested in aviation or looking for a laid-back base to explore the surrounding area. It’s home to the world-famous Farnborough International Airshow, and the town has strong ties to flight and aerospace history. There are some lovely green spaces, handy shopping areas and a good choice of cafes and pubs.
Farnborough is well-connected and close to several interesting towns. Just to the north you’ll find Camberley, great for shopping and cinema trips. Fleet is nearby and offers lakeside walks and cosy pubs. Aldershot, known for its military history, is only a few minutes away. If you’ve got a bit more time, Guildford and Farnham are both within a 30-minute drive and offer lovely high streets, historic sites, and great dining options. Reading and Woking are also within easy reach by car or train.
Farnborough is best known for its strong links to aviation. It’s the site of the Farnborough Airshow, one of the biggest aerospace events in the world. The town is also home to the Farnborough Aerodrome, which has a long and impressive history tied to aviation development and research. Beyond flight, Farnborough is also recognised for its Royal Aircraft Establishment and the Air Sciences Trust Museum, which help tell the story of Britain’s flight innovation.
No, Farnborough isn’t part of London. It’s located in Hampshire, in the Southeast of England, around 35 miles southwest of central London. But, it’s well-connected by rail, and you can get to London Waterloo Station in under an hour.
