"Poor night’s sleep due to rowdiness"
Booked in for 2 nights but left after the first. Drunken men in the car park shouting obscenities till midnight. Then 1 a.m to 3 a.m noise from the room above. I did report to reception. Staff were very pleasant but I found out from people who live nearby that this is a rough place. Seeing the carrier bags of cheap lager being brought in the next day, it was clear that the following night would be no better

"Premier Inn experience, but with excellent staff."
The best thing about this hotel is its lovely staff. We stay here very regularly, usually on Sunday night and Chandan is always here to greet us. He is really lovely and nothing is too much trouble. He’s a credit to the hotel and makes up for the otherwise rather tired hotel. But everything always works and it’s clean so what’s not to like?

"Chandan needs a shout out"
Forced to get a hotel due to my dad being taken ill at the local hospital. The local airshow was on so it was a struggle, but Chandan at Southwood went out of his way to amend my booking to an accessible room on the ground floor for my elderly mum who was staying there alone, and ensured i would keep it for a second night if needed. Always asked how my parents were upon my arrival and was extremely kind and helpful.
Only real negative was he breakfast wasn't the best, but Chandan really was wonderful.

"A very average stay."
Staff were great. We were there at the height of the heatwave. The room (in fact the whole hotel) was like an oven and could not be cooled however the prompt provision of two big fans made it just about bearable.
Breakfast was fine but because the adjacent Brewers Fare pub was slated for closure they stopped serving food at 15:00 and closed the bar at 20:30 - before we arrived!
A very average stay saved by the helpful staff.

"Sleeping in a hot box wasn't on my trips bingo card list"
My daughter and I were on an overnight trip to visit a university open day and travelling there and back in one day wasn't doable. We have used Premier Inn hotels many times in the past as a family, so booked this hotel a few months before travelling. Price was very good for an overnight stay and was booked during an offer period where Premier Inn offered free breakfast.
The problems started when we arrived at the hotel. We arrived at the hotel at 9pm to check in and was promptly provided with our room key and directions to the room. it wasn't mentioned by the staff member to ensure to type the vehicle registration into the tablet on the wall, but it was visible from the moment I walked in - I have been caught out once before and so ensured the vehicle was registered.
On walking towards the room, the hallway was extremely warm, but not as hot as the room was when we opened the door - it was like walking into a sauna. The in-room thermometer reported the temperature being 31c (88f). As this hotel doesn't have air conditioning, the window was open, but was locked into position so that there was only a 4 inch gap for air to get into the room. Alongside this there were two fans, one really good one that moved air around the room and the other, a pedestal fan which was about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. For some inexplicable reason, the pedestal fan was fitted with a timer which would only allow it to power on for a maximum of 2 hours after which it would turn off - not what you want to see when you're lying in an oven. The other issue was the severe lack of plug sockets on the wall. There was a grand sum of two sockets available, but with one of them being taken by the black and white fans (in the picture), we had one plug socket to charge devices into and with the two usb sockets next to the bed being USB A and we were only carrying usb c - usb c cables, it meant we were only able to charge a singular phone overnight. Considering the EU has mandated everything be chargeable by USB, this does seem to be an oversight on the room designers. The room itself was a standard Premier inn room, clean, with enough towels for two people and enough beds to go around. The bathroom was clean, but I don't understand why Premier Inn continues to persist with installing showers over baths and not a shower cubicle or wet room instead - it would've been much better and much easier for me as someone with a physical disability to get in and out of the shower.
As can be imagined, attempting to sleep in 31c (88f) temperatures didn't go so well, and having to get up very early the following day wasn't on my bingo card for this trip away. When we woke, the temperature had lessened, but only to a measily 29c (84f) at 0645 in the morning, but still woke lying in a a pool of sweat with a t shirt literally stuck to my back. Not at all pleasant and easily solvable by putting portable air conditioning machines in each of the rooms to allow them to be cooled if the company cannot afford to retrofit with whole building air conditioning.
Breakfast was offered at the Brewers Fayre next door and at the time we arrived (0730) it was empty with plenty of available seats. the staff seemed friendly and advised where things were.
On checking out, it was a different staff member. I mentioned the overnight temperatures and how much of a bad nights sleep we got (we eventually arrived home 16 hours after leaving the hotel, having been to the open day and driving home) to which we got no response from the guy on the front desk.
All in all, if you want to sleep in an oven for a hotel room, this hotel is the one for you. With the way the temperatures are over the summer months, this hotel, without air conditioning, is one I will be avoiding in future.
