FAQs
Yes, Horsham is definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re looking for a mix of history, green spaces and good food. Horsham blends a traditional high street with modern shopping, restaurants and galleries. Horsham Park is great for a stroll or picnic, and there are regular local events, markets and a buzzing atmosphere. It’s also perfectly placed for countryside adventures in the South Downs or day trips to the Sussex coast.
The Premier Inn Horsham Town Centre Hotel is right in the heart of Horsham, making it a convenient base whether you’re here for work or a short break. It’s just a short walk from the main shopping streets, restaurants and Horsham Park, and the train station is nearby too. You’ll have everything you need on your doorstep, including easy access to the beautiful Sussex countryside.
The closest city to Horsham is Brighton, which is around 20 miles to the south. It’s an easy drive or train ride and makes for a great day trip if you fancy a dose of seaside fun or browsing Brighton’s famous Lanes. If you're heading north, London is around an hour away by train, making Horsham a great base for exploring both countryside and city attractions.
Horsham is known for its historic market town roots, its beautiful parks and being a gateway to the South Downs. It has a strong local food scene, with regular farmers’ markets and independent eateries. The town also has links to the famous poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, who was born nearby. Today, Horsham is popular for its well-kept town centre, lively events and peaceful setting surrounded by countryside.
No, Horsham doesn’t have a beach – it’s inland – but you’re not far from the coast. If you’re in the mood for some sea and sand, you can drive or take the train to places like Brighton, Worthing or Littlehampton in under an hour. It’s easy to enjoy a beach day trip while using Horsham as a base.
Start with Horsham Park, the town’s popular green space, perfect for strolls, picnics and family days out. It features formal gardens, a duck pond, a large play area and a cafe. Art and history fans will enjoy the Horsham Museum & Art Gallery, located in a historic timber-framed building in the town centre. It showcases local history, including exhibitions on the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, archaeology and Victorian life. Entry is free, making it a great indoor option. Nearby, Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a peaceful escape where you can wander through woodland, spot birds and enjoy tranquil views of the millpond. Catch a show at The Capitol Theatre, which hosts everything from live music and comedy to cinema screenings and drama. Stroll through Swan Walk Shopping Centre and along West Street for high street favourites, then explore East Street and The Carfax for independent shops, boutiques and regular markets. The Carfax also hosts a regular market with everything from baked goods to artisan gifts. If you're up for exploring beyond the town, Leechpool & Owlbeech Woods offer more walking trails and wildlife spotting just a short drive away, and Southwater Country Park, just south of Horsham, has lakeside paths, water sports and a fun dinosaur-themed play area.
West Street is the main shopping street in Horsham, and it’s packed with popular high street brands, cafes and bakeries. Nearby, Swan Walk Shopping Centre adds more retail options, and if you’re after something more unique, head over to the Carfax and East Street for independent shops and local markets.
A gentle walk around Horsham Park takes around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on how much you want to explore. The park is spacious, with landscaped gardens, a lake, a sensory garden and a play area, so it’s easy to spend longer if you fancy a picnic or stop for coffee at the cafe.
