FAQs
Glastonbury is special for a lot of reasons—it has a mix of history and creativity. The town is steeped in myth, often linked with King Arthur and the Holy Grail, and is home to Glastonbury Tor, a hill topped with a medieval tower offering stunning views. It’s also known for its alternative vibe, with quirky shops, wellness centres and spiritual retreats. And of course, it’s home to the world-famous Glastonbury Festival, which brings in people from all over the globe.
Yes, definitely! Glastonbury is a unique place to visit. Whether you're into history, music, nature or spirituality, there’s something here for you. From climbing the Tor and visiting the Abbey ruins to exploring the town’s vibrant shops and cafes, Glastonbury offers a mix of peaceful atmosphere and alternative culture that you won’t find anywhere else.
Absolutely. The town itself has a distinctive charm with its colourful high street full of independent shops, crystal stores and vegetarian cafes. There’s a relaxed, creative energy that draws artists and curious visitors alike. Even outside festival season, Glastonbury has a lot to offer—from the historic Glastonbury Abbey to the Chalice Well Gardens, it’s a great place for a weekend stay.
Glastonbury is famous for both the iconic Glastonbury Festival and its deep roots in history and myth. The festival is one of the biggest and most celebrated music events in the world, known for huge headliners and a diverse lineup of music, art and performance. The town itself is also famous for its links to ancient legends, such as King Arthur and Avalon.
Start your day with a walk up Glastonbury Tor to enjoy panoramic views. Then head down to explore Glastonbury Abbey, where history meets peaceful gardens. Grab a coffee in one of the town’s quirky cafes—many offer veggie and vegan options. In the afternoon, wander the high street and pop into the unique shops selling everything from tarot cards to handmade crafts. You could also visit Chalice Well for some quiet reflection. End your day with a relaxing dinner at a local restaurant or an evening event if one’s on.
Yes, Glastonbury is very walkable. The town centre is compact and easy to explore on foot, with most attractions within walking distance. Walking up the Tor takes about 15–30 minutes depending on your pace, and it’s a popular part of any visit. There are also some lovely countryside walks around the town for those who enjoy being out in nature.
Evenings in Glastonbury are more laid-back than lively, but there's still plenty to enjoy. You can have a relaxed meal at one of the local pubs or restaurants, or check out any local music, poetry or storytelling events, which are often hosted in cosy venues or community spaces. Some spiritual centres offer evening workshops or meditations too.
Glastonbury Festival is one of the world’s most famous music and performing arts festivals, held almost every year in Somerset, England. It's known for its massive scale, incredible variety of acts and vibrant atmosphere. While it’s most famous for big-name music headliners, the festival also celebrates dance, comedy, theatre, circus arts, spoken word, political talks and all kinds of creative expression. The festival usually takes place in late June, starting on a Wednesday and running through to Sunday night. People often arrive earlier in the week to set up and soak in the atmosphere before the main music acts begin.
Yes, both the town and the festival can be very family-friendly. The town offers plenty for children to explore, from climbing the Tor and running around the Abbey grounds to enjoying nature in the local parks and gardens. Glastonbury Festival also has dedicated family areas with kid-friendly activities, shows and quieter camping spots. It’s well organised, and many families go year after year.
