"Nothing’s premier but the price"
Generally I avoid Premier Inn these days, since the pandemic their price has shot up but there was not a lot of choice in Yeovil, and as Lenny Henry now says; you know what you’re getting. Yes you do, these days nothing’s premier but the price.
I did book a Premier Plus room, the first time in a long time, and I’d have to say distinctly average. The room itself was clean but some maintenance is required with stained carpets and mildew on tiling. I stayed in a plus room years ago and was disappointed that the only things that seemed extra were two tiny chocolate bars, a couple of bottles of water and a Nespresso machine. I was staying for two nights so had to ask for the room to be serviced (whats all that about these days, I did ask because if I book each night separately I’d have had a new linen and a total clean). The water was replenished but not the coffee pods or the tea. I didn’t mention it as I had had just enough coffee pods left but that’s not the point.
There were two different scents for the shower gel which was nice. The tap made an almighty noise when it was running to fill the bath, definitely some more maintenance needed - perhaps costs have been cut since prices increased at the pandemic, maybe things just aren’t as they were when Alison Brittan was in charge.
The restaurant has now closed down so be warned that if you book the meal deal they were still pushing at online checkin on the day there was nowhere to honour it. I didn’t have breakfast there.
The location is ok, literally in the town centre and parking near by was reasonable £4 for 24 hours. A lot of places near the hotel are closed down (the hotel’s restaurant included) so Yeovil itself felt rather distressed.
There was a bit of noise from outside as there was a Nando’s below which Yeovil’s youths seemed to enjoy congregating at. The Premier Plus rooms are at the end of a long corridor, not their own floor like other hotels, so you can still hear the traditional PI door banging as they do seem to have aggressive door closer arms.
Checkin on arrival was friendly, I tried to checkin online but the app wouldn’t work. There’s no self service kiosks at this hotel, it’s distinctly old school. I was initially given the wrong key. As I said I asked for the room to be serviced the next morning but that I didn’t need new towels, it was like I was an inconvenience for asking it was done (caveat as above) but still they left me new towels.
You’re now asked to checkout on the app, I did so and left my key in the room. There wasn’t anyone there at checkout anyway, and like a self service till at a supermarket, I’d done half their job for them so didn’t need to do the rest.
Would I stay again? It was ok, probably wouldn’t be in a rush to go back to Yeovil anyway. I tend to look at all other options before pricing a Premier Inn these days as I know better brands are often cheaper or better value with Premier Inn trading on their name.

"Excellent staff"
I was there last weekend with my partner and we had a mishap while booking. We were checked in by the lovely Rory and Cathy on Thursday and they got everything resolved for us so efficiently and effectively.
We’ve stayed here multiple times and the staff are always lovely.

"Good"
Bedroom was fine no problems at all. Found tough the parking rather strange, you can use the adjacent car park where it’s all disabled parking to unload but main parking is round the corner about 5 min walk from the hotel. They seem to require your booking reference in this one so have it ready and the restaurant is hit or miss whether it’s open or not. No water in our premier plus rooms so had to ask for some from the restaurant and no chocolate at all. Lots of other places to eat nearby. Parking at the council carpark is free 6pm-8am if you download the app you can do it remotely.

"Not the best experience"
The hotel's very much in need of a refurb. The first room stank, the second had someone in it, and the third was not as clean as we would expect from Prem. The shower curtain could've stood up on its own and the shower gel had been watered down. We were offered a drink in the bar to compensate for the issues, but when we went in most of the beers were unavailable, and when we asked for a menu for an evening meal, we were told the restaurant was shut at night due to there being only one chef and he was doing breakfasts. We have stayed at this Prem many times, but it's obvious that there's some issues here - maybe it's going to close and they're winding it down - that's certainly how it felt. However, the staff did their best to sort our problems and were friendly and professional.
