FAQs
Yes, Stourbridge is well worth a visit! It’s world-renowned as the home of British glass and you can still see glassblowers at work in places like the Red House Cone and Ruskin Glass Centre. The surrounding countryside is beautiful too, with the Clent Hills, Kinver Edge and its rock houses, and scenic canals all just a short trip away. Add in family-friendly parks, nearby attractions like the Black Country Living Museum and plenty of cosy pubs, and you’ve got a great mix for a short break.
The Premier Inn in Stourbridge is centrally located, making it ideal for both leisure and business trips. From here, you’re within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and the town centre, while also being well placed to head out to nearby countryside and attractions like the Stourbridge Canal or the Clent Hills. It’s also convenient if you’re travelling by train or car, with good connections to Birmingham, Dudley and the rest of the Black Country.
Stourbridge is most famous for its glassmaking heritage. For over 400 years, it has been at the heart of the world’s glass industry, producing pieces that were exported globally and collected by royalty. Today, that tradition lives on at museums like the Red House Cone and at working studios where you can watch skilled glassblowers in action. Beyond glass, Stourbridge is known for its canal network, its traditional pubs and its easy access to the rolling landscapes of Worcestershire and the Black Country.
Stourbridge is a town and forms part of the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley in the West Midlands, but it has its own strong identity and history.
Absolutely – Stourbridge has plenty to keep you busy. The town is world-famous for its glassmaking, so a Stourbridge Glass Tour is a must. You can watch traditional glass blowing at the Ruskin Glass Centre or explore the Red House Cone Glass Museum, where centuries of glassmaking history come to life. For a step back in time, visit the Black Country Living Museum nearby. Spread over 26 acres, it recreates the world’s first industrial landscape with historic buildings, costumed characters and old-fashioned trams and buses. If you enjoy a slower pace, take a wander through the pretty villages around Stourbridge, like Kinver, with its famous rock houses carved into sandstone cliffs, Churchill, Belbroughto or the scenic Clent Hills, which are perfect for a walk with panoramic views. The Stourbridge Canal is another highlight – follow the five-mile towpath, explore the impressive 16-lock flight near the Red House Cone and enjoy a stroll or cycle alongside the water. Art and culture fans can also pop into the Himley Hall and Park, a beautiful stately home with seasonal exhibitions and lovely lakeside walks, or the Broadfield House Glass Museum in nearby Kingswinford. Sports fans might enjoy catching a game at Stourbridge Football Club, while families can spend a day at Mary Stevens Park, with play areas, a boating lake and lots of open green space.
The River Stour runs through Stourbridge. It winds its way through the town before joining the River Severn further downstream. The river played an important role in the town’s industrial past, powering mills and workshops. Today, it provides a peaceful backdrop for riverside walks and connects with the local canal network, which is great for cycling or boating.
Stourbridge is surrounded by some lovely areas. To the north you’ve got Dudley with its zoo, castle and the Black Country Living Museum. To the south, you can head into Worcestershire and explore towns like Kidderminster or the market town of Bewdley on the River Severn. Kinver, with its famous rock houses, is just a short drive away and the scenic Clent Hills are nearby too. Birmingham is around half an hour away by train, making Stourbridge a good base if you want both city life and countryside escapes.
Yes, Stourbridge has its own train station, Stourbridge Town, which is famously connected to Stourbridge Junction by the Stourbridge Shuttle – the shortest passenger railway line in Britain. From Stourbridge Junction you can catch direct trains into Birmingham, Kidderminster and Worcester, making travel around the West Midlands and beyond really straightforward.
