We're a Force for Good

At Premier Inn, part of the Whitbread family, we care deeply about you, our teams, our communities and our planet. That’s why being a Force for Good is at the heart of everything we do, from donating surplus food to communities and working on reaching net zero carbon to supporting the life-changing work of Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) since 2012 – and much more.

As the UK’s largest hotel chain, we’re proud to be setting industry-leading goals for supporting communities, so you can rest easy knowing we’re all about making positive changes in a big way and doing our bit for the world we live in.

Community

We have over 800 hotels across the UK and every single one of them is built into a community. We pride ourselves on playing an active role in those communities, whether that’s through charity fundraising, volunteering or providing work experience opportunities.

Part of the community

Part of the community

Every time a new hotel or restaurant opens, we’re joining a new community. We support and sponsor each team member at our new sites to volunteer three hours to a local cause that both they and local residents are passionate about. This can be anything from picking up litter to redecorating community centres or donating to food banks. It works for everyone – we learn more about the communities we’re part of, and the community gets to see more of who we really are.

Supporting GOSH Charity

We’ve been proudly supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH Charity) since 2012, hosting everything from bed-ins to fun runs and everything in between to help raise money for seriously ill children from across the UK.

Over the next five years, we’ve pledged £20 million towards the GOSH Charity Build it. Beat it. appeal, which is all in aid of building a world-leading Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital to help transform children’s cancer care and save more lives.

We know that diverse teams make winning teams. We’re committed to actively breaking down barriers to entry so that we can be an inclusive and representative employer. And once our team members are part of the Premier Inn family, we are committed to ensuring they feel represented and respected, regardless of how they identify.

Whether you're working with us, or enjoying our hospitality, our hotels and restaurants are the most welcoming places to be thanks to our friendly staff and how accessible our buildings are. We pride ourselves on making sure that every single person we work with, or serve, feels welcome.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

As the UK’s biggest hospitality company welcoming millions of guests into our hotels and restaurants throughout the year, we recognise that without a visual cue, it can be difficult for people – including our team members – to identify or understand the daily barriers faced by people living with an invisible disability.

That’s why this year, to mark Purple Tuesday, we’ve decided to adopt the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower as part of our Force for Good programme!

Responsibility

We know our work affects the environment and the people around us, which is why we have industry leading targets across our programme to reduce our impact on the environment and respect the human rights of workers across our value chain.

Responsible sourcing

We only work with suppliers who share our values and meet our high standards. We pride ourselves on working with our suppliers to continuously ensure that human rights are respected across our value chain and source products to internationally recognised sustainability standards. For example, we source Farm Assured beef from the UK & Ireland, our milk from Red Tractor Standard-assured British farms and were the first UK hotel and restaurant chain to sustainably source all wild-caught fish to MSC certification standards.

Going Net-Zero

We’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint, and we’re already really proud of our achievements so far; we use 100% renewable energy to power our hotels, and we have solar panels installed on over 180 of them. We’ve also planted roof gardens on some of our hotels to help support local biodiversity, and encourage birds, bees and other wonderful wildlife to thrive at our buildings. We’ve recently set an industry-leading target to reduce our carbon emissions intensity by 50% by 2025 and we’re going one step further by going Net-zero on our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040.

Reducing waste

All waste from our hotels and restaurants is diverted from landfill, and we recycle all of our beds, pillows and duvets. We’re working to remove all unnecessary single-use plastics from our hotels and restaurants by 2025. We were also the first business in the UK to sign up to Refill – offering free water bottle refills at over 3000 sites.

All-electric Premier Inn

Our five-storey 195-bedroom hotel is the first Premier Inn to be designed without a connection to a natural gas supply. Instead, this hotel will be heated and powered fully by grid energy generated from renewable sources and by on-site photovoltaic (PV) cells.

FAQs

Are Premier Inn hotels powered by renewable energy?
Our 800+ UK hotels are powered by Scottish Power or Power NI who provide us with 100% renewable electricity as part of their contract, with only 19 of our hotels including those in the Isle of Man and Jersey being excluded. This means that a total of 98% of hotels are powered by renewable energy.
