Perth is located in Perthshire, right in the heart of Scotland. Its central location makes it a great base for exploring the rest of the country. It’s also well connected, sitting less than an hour’s drive from Dundee, so it's an easy day trip if you're staying elsewhere in the region.

Perth is known as “The Fair City,” and it holds a special place in Scotland’s history. Once the ancient capital of Scotland, it's famously home to Scone Palace, where Scottish kings were crowned. The city is also recognised for its cultural attractions like the Perth Museum and Art Gallery, and its ties to literature, thanks to the tale of the Fair Maid of Perth. Set on the banks of the River Tay, it’s admired for its natural beauty, architecture and thriving arts scene. Whether you're into history, the outdoors or local heritage, Perth is full of character.
There’s plenty to keep you entertained in Perth. Culture lovers will enjoy visiting the Perth Museum and Art Gallery, home to fascinating exhibitions and local history. The statue of the Fair Maid of Perth is a must-see for literature fans, and Perth Theatre is a great spot for live performances. Just a short drive away, you’ll find the stunning Scone Palace – once the crowning place of Scottish kings. It’s a must-visit if you're into royal history or just fancy a walk around the grounds.

Yes, Perth has several places for a spot of retail therapy. The main one is the St John’s Shopping Centre, right in the heart of the city. Around the centre, you’ll also find specialist boutiques, local artisan stores and gift shops, especially along George Street and South Street.
Definitely! Perth is a compact and walkable city, which makes it really easy to explore on foot. You can stroll from St John’s Kirk to North Inch Park, wander along the River Tay or browse the shops without needing to rely on public transport.
Perth offers a great night out, especially if you're looking for a mix of lively and laid-back. The city has a variety of cosy pubs, trendy cocktail bars and live music venues. There are also plenty of restaurants serving everything from traditional Scottish dishes to global cuisines, ideal for a dinner out before heading to the theatre or catching some live music.
A day or two in Perth is ideal for exploring the main sights and enjoying the city. If you just want to hit the highlights – like Scone Palace, Perth Museum and Art Gallery, and a riverside walk – one full day could do the job. But if you’d like time to enjoy the shops, check out a local event or show and venture into nearby countryside or castles, then a long weekend is a perfect length. It’s also a great base for exploring wider Perthshire and the Highlands if you’re staying longer.
