Rochdale is well located for exploring Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire. Nearby towns include Oldham, Bury and Halifax, while Manchester city centre is just over 10 miles away. You’re also close to the Pennines and places like Littleborough, Todmorden and Hebden Bridge, which are great for scenic walks and days out.  

Yes, the Rochdale Canal is a great place for a walk. The towpath runs for miles and takes you through peaceful countryside, historic mills and surrounding villages. It’s popular with walkers, joggers and cyclists, and parts of the route offer beautiful views across the Pennines. Whether you want a gentle stroll or a longer hike, the canal offers a relaxing way to explore the area. 

The town centre has a mix of high street names, supermarkets and local independents, mostly centred around the Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre. There’s also a traditional outdoor market and various smaller arcades. While it’s not a major shopping destination like Manchester or the Trafford Centre, it’s great for picking up the essentials and browsing some local finds. 

Rochdale town centre has a mix of retail, dining and cultural attractions. Highlights include the historic Town Hall, the Rochdale Pioneers Museum and the shopping centre. You’ll also find restaurants, pubs and cafes dotted throughout.

There’s also the Touchstones arts and heritage centre, which hosts exhibitions and events. If you’re after outdoor adventures, the surrounding countryside and nearby reservoirs offer great walking and cycling routes. Families will also enjoy local attractions like Hollingworth Lake and Healey Dell Nature Reserve. 

There’s plenty to see and do just outside Rochdale. Visit Hollingworth Lake for watersports or a peaceful picnic, take a walk in the South Pennines or explore neighbouring towns like Hebden Bridge for boutique shops and riverside cafes. The scenic drive through the moorlands between Rochdale and Littleborough is also worth doing. And with Manchester so close, it’s easy to combine your trip with a visit to museums, galleries or a big night out.

Most Premier Inns have specially-adapted rooms allowing easier access for customers with disabilities. If there is no specially-adapted room available at the hotel of your choice, we will be happy to offer you alternative accommodation at a nearby Premier Inn. If you have difficulty walking, but do not need a specially-adapted room, please feel free to request a room near reception on the ground floor for easy access.
