FAQs
Yes, Warwick is definitely worth a visit. This historic market town in the West Midlands is packed with things to see and do, especially if you’re into castles, heritage and old English architecture. Warwick Castle is the headline attraction – it’s huge, dramatic, and great for all ages, with live shows, historical displays and even birds of prey flying over the battlements. But there’s more to Warwick than the castle. You can explore centuries-old buildings like the Lord Leycester Hospital, stroll around the peaceful Hill Close Gardens or take a walk by the River Avon. The town centre has a good mix of independent shops, cafes and traditional pubs, making it easy to spend a relaxed afternoon here.
No, Warwick Castle wasn’t used as a filming location for the Harry Potter films. Although the castle has the kind of dramatic towers, stone walls, and spooky dungeons that wouldn’t look out of place at Hogwarts, none of the actual scenes were shot there. That said, fans of the wizarding world still tend to enjoy the atmosphere, and the castle sometimes hosts fantasy-themed events and activities that feel a little bit magical.
Warwick is best known for its medieval castle, but it’s also recognised for its deep historical roots and well-preserved architecture. Founded over 1,100 years ago, Warwick has played a key role in English history—from the Norman Conquest through to the Civil War. The town’s long connection with the Earls of Warwick and its role in battles and royal affairs make it a spot packed with stories. Today, Warwick is known for its beautiful town centre with timber-framed houses, traditional tea rooms and historic churches like St Mary’s, which has a tower you can climb for great views. It’s also right next to the Cotswolds and just a short drive from Stratford-upon-Avon, making it a handy base for exploring the area.
Warwick is famous mainly for Warwick Castle, one of the most complete and iconic castles in England. It’s also famous for its long-standing role in English nobility – the powerful Earls of Warwick were once among the most influential people in the country. On top of that, Warwick is known for its historic centre, full of Georgian and medieval buildings, cobbled lanes and parks. The town also hosts a popular folk festival and regular antique and artisan markets.
