Absolutely – Beverley is a beautiful market town that mixes history, culture, shopping and green spaces in one place. Whether you’re drawn to the magnificent Beverley Minster, the bustling Saturday market or the open meadows of Beverley Westwood, there’s plenty to enjoy. Add in race days at Beverley Racecourse, cosy pubs and a lively arts scene at places like the East Riding Theatre, and you’ve got a town that’s definitely worth a visit.
Beverley is a medium-sized town, big enough to have a buzzing centre with shops, restaurants and attractions, but small enough to walk around comfortably. The historic core is compact, making it easy to explore on foot, while the surrounding green spaces like Beverley Westwood are nice and spacious.
Yes, Beverley has been a market town for centuries and still holds regular markets today. Its usually a weekend market is one of the best-known in East Yorkshire, and there’s also a smaller weekday market. The town has kept its traditional market-town atmosphere while blending in modern shopping and dining.
The main shopping street is Saturday Market, which is the town’s central square and hub of activity. From here, streets like Toll Gavel and Butcher Row branch out with a mix of big-name stores and independent shops. Together, they form a lively shopping area that’s easy to explore in an afternoon.
Beverley is packed with things to see and do. Start with the stunning Beverley Minster and the historic St Mary’s Church, then wander through the lively town centre with its antique arcade, regular market and cosy cafes. Enjoy open-air walks on Beverley Westwood or along Beverley Beckband if you’re visiting in season, catch the excitement at Beverley Racecourse. Culture lovers can explore the Treasure House and Art Gallery, Beverley Guildhall or take in a show at East Riding Theatre, while families and shoppers will enjoy the Flemingate Centre. Just outside town, Skidby Windmill adds a touch of history, and themed walking trails make exploring the area even more fun.
Beverley has a good mix of high-street brands, boutique shops and local independents. You’ll find fashion retailers, homeware stores, gift shops, bookshops and plenty of places selling local food and drink. The Flemingate shopping centre adds more choice with well-known names, restaurants and a cinema, while the market area and small arcades bring unique finds you won’t get elsewhere.
Beverley Market is vibrant and full of variety. The Saturday market is the busiest, spreading across the town centre with stalls selling fresh produce, artisan goods, clothes, plants and much more. The Wednesday market is smaller but still has plenty to browse. It’s the kind of place where you can pick up your fruit and veg, find something handmade and stop for a coffee all in one visit.
Yes, Beverley has a lively but relaxed nightlife. You’ll find traditional pubs serving real ale, stylish wine bars and restaurants ranging from cosy bistros to fine dining. On race days, the atmosphere is especially buzzing with visitors heading into town after the action. For evening entertainment, the East Riding Theatre puts on plays and live music and some pubs host gigs or quiz nights. It’s more about quality food, drink and atmosphere than late-night clubs, making it a great night out for adults looking to unwind
