Things To Do in Bracknell
FAQs
Bracknell is known for being one of the UK’s post-war New Towns, but it's come a long way since then. Today, it’s a modern hub packed with shops, green spaces and big-name businesses. The town is especially recognised for The Lexicon, a shopping and leisure centre with loads of high street brands, restaurants and a cinema. It’s also home to a number of global tech companies, making it part of what’s often called the “Silicon Thames Valley.”
Definitely! Whether you're after a shopping spree, a bit of culture or some outdoor fun, Bracknell has a bit of everything. You can browse over 100 shops at The Lexicon, catch a show at South Hill Park Arts Centre or head out to Swinley Forest for woodland walks, mountain biking or Go Ape.
Bracknell is surrounded by pretty Berkshire countryside and nearby towns like Windsor, Ascot and Crowthorne, all within easy reach. You’re also not far from Reading or Wokingham if you fancy more shops, parks or dining options.
Bracknell isn’t a large town by UK standards, but it’s well-equipped for its size and is the main hub in the Borough of Bracknell Forest. While it doesn't have the scale of a big city, it ticks a lot of boxes—modern shopping, entertainment venues, business parks and plenty of green spaces. Over the years, Bracknell has grown into a lively town with excellent transport links to London, Reading and other major centres. Whether you're visiting for a day or staying longer, you’ll find it has more to offer than you might expect from a town its size.
Go Ape Bracknell is an outdoor adventure destination in the Swinley Forest. Perfect for thrill-seekers of all ages, it features everything from zip wires and Tarzan swings to tree-top rope courses. Whether you’re heading there with family, a group of friends or as part of a team-building day, Go Ape offers a memorable experience full of fun.
The Lookout Discovery Centre is a great day out for families, especially those with young children. The centre is packed with over 90 hands-on science and nature activities that keep kids engaged and learning while having a great time. Little ones can splash in the indoor stream, role-play in the mini supermarket and enjoy the woodland-themed play zones. Older children will enjoy experimenting with interactive exhibits, puzzles and learning games. It’s also set in the middle of a lovely forest, perfect for a post-play picnic or nature walk.
South Hill Park Arts Centre is known as the creative heart of Bracknell and a hub of culture and entertainment in Berkshire. The venue offers a packed calendar of events, including live theatre, music, dance, cinema screenings and art exhibitions. The beautiful Georgian manor setting, with lakeside grounds and a cafe, makes it a fantastic spot for a day out or a relaxed evening with friends.
Yes, Bracknell has a recently redeveloped town centre called The Lexicon. It’s at the heart of the town and brings together over 100 shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment venues. The area is designed with open spaces, public art and plenty of seating to make it a great place to spend time. It’s also fully pedestrianised, so it’s easy to explore on foot. Whether you're grabbing a coffee, enjoying dinner with friends or doing a bit of retail therapy, The Lexicon is the place to be in Bracknell.
Bracknell’s not by the sea, so you won’t find any beaches on the doorstep—but there are still some great options nearby if you fancy a day by the coast. Brighton is probably your best bet, about 70 miles away and easy to get to in under two hours by car or train. It’s got pebble beaches, a pier, quirky shops and loads of great places to eat. If you’re after something a bit quieter, West Wittering Beach or Bournemouth are also doable for a day trip.
