FAQs
Yes, Lowestoft is definitely worth visiting, especially if you’re after a classic seaside trip with wide sandy beaches, sea views and family-friendly attractions. It’s the easternmost town in the UK, which means you’ll be among the first in the country to see the sunrise. There’s a mix of beach days, coastal walks, maritime heritage and indoor attractions, so whether the sun’s out or not, there’s plenty to do. It’s also a good base if you want to explore the nearby Broads National Park or hop between Suffolk’s coastal towns.
Lowestoft is right on the Suffolk coast, close to several popular spots. To the south, you’ve got Southwold, with its iconic lighthouse and beach huts, and a bit further along is Aldeburgh. To the north, Great Yarmouth is just up the coast in Norfolk, with its amusements and long sandy beach. Inland, Beccles and Oulton Broad sit on the edge of the Broads, great for boat trips and riverside walks. It’s also just over an hour’s drive to Norwich, if you’re after a day in the city.
Yes, Lowestoft is a great spot for a traditional UK seaside holiday. It’s got two main beaches, both sandy, plus a long promenade, a pier and arcades. You can explore parks, a small zoo and museums or take a boat trip on the Broads nearby. There are good choices for eating out, from fish and chips to more modern spots, and plenty of ice cream stops along the seafront. Whether you’re travelling with kids, as a couple, or solo, there’s a relaxed pace and enough going on to fill a weekend or more.
Lowestoft is the biggest town in Suffolk in terms of population, but it's easy to get around. It has everything you’d expect from a larger town – shopping areas, leisure centres and transport links – but with the bonus of having a beach just a short walk from the centre. It’s not as busy as a big city, which makes it a laid-back place to visit, especially in summer.
