More about Weymouth
Weymouth’s world-famous beaches have been a popular spot for seaside trips since the 18th century, when the seaside town became King George III’s favourite place to take holidays. It’s not hard to see why: Weymouth Beach is on the Jurassic Coast, an iconic World Heritage Site, and just two miles from our Weymouth and Weymouth Seafront hotels. Castle Cove, Greenhill Beach and Overcombe Beach are just a few of the other picturesque beaches dotted around this amazing part of Dorset.
There’s more to Weymouth than its beaches though – this beautiful town is home to fantastic green spaces like Weymouth Greenhill Gardens, Abbotsbury and Nothe Gardens, with walking trails and stunning scenery along the Rodwell Trail, Weymouth Portland Railway Walk and the Jurassic Cycle trail for cyclists.
Weymouth has a proud naval military history – built in 1860, Nothe Fort has some of the most spectacular views of the coast, and a fascinating WW2 museum. Sandsfoot Castle is even older, completed in 1542 to defend the coastline, the castle now forms part of a scenic walk through Weymouth’s countryside. Other great historic landmarks like Tudor House can be found on Trinity Street, along with St. Catherine’s Chapel, which was built in the 14th century.
Weymouth is one of the best towns for UK weekend breaks because it has so many fun seaside attractions. Those range from amazing sea life at SEA LIFE Centre Weymouth, to Sandworld Sculpture Park and Fantasy Island Fun Park. Abbotsbury Swannery and Abbotsbury Children’s Farm are fantastic places to learn more about wildlife in the UK. Monkey World is only a 30-minute drive from our Weymouth hotels, and is a real cheeky treat for the whole family. Whether you’re on a trip with the kids, on a romantic break or just looking for a breath of seaside air, there’s plenty to do in Weymouth.
There’s also great one-of-a-kind gifts to be found at Weymouth Market and St. Alban Street. Plus you can get all your high street shopping done on New Bond Street, St. Thomas Street and St. Mary Street.
