FAQs
Yes, Haverfordwest is definitely worth a stop, especially if you’re exploring Pembrokeshire. It’s a market town with a dramatic castle overlooking the centre, a lively riverside and plenty of places to eat, shop and unwind. It also makes a brilliant base for heading out to the coast, the Preseli Hills and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
Haverfordwest is best known for its Norman castle, which dominates the skyline and for being the historic county town of Pembrokeshire. It’s also famous as a hub for exploring west Wales, with easy access to castles, countryside and seaside villages. Over the centuries it’s been a key market town and that tradition continues today with local produce markets and independent shops.
Not directly. Haverfordwest sits inland along the River Cleddau, but the coast is only a short drive away. Within 15-20 minutes you can reach some of Pembrokeshire’s best beaches, like Broad Haven and Newgale, making it a handy spot if you want both town and seaside experiences.
The town is set on the Western Cleddau River, which winds its way through Pembrokeshire before joining the Eastern Cleddau to form the Daugleddau Estuary. The riverside gives the town a relaxed feel, with walking routes and picnic spots right by the water.
