"Terrible customer service."
Last minute booking, was booked into the Travelodge in Scarborough but it looked terrible
Arrived just before 10pm in the dark, after 9hrs on the road. Parked up in a disabled bay as I had done previously, didn't look out for any parking signage as the website states it's free.
Went to check in using the automated system, it said my room wasn't ready so a member of staff signed me in. I asked if there was EV charging facilities and she said no, as the new owners hadn't signed them up with BT Pulse, she gave me my key (card) and I went to my room.
All good so far, stayed the night and left.
A couple of weeks later I get a parking fine, bearing in mind it said then and still does at time of writing that parking is free.
I appealed to Horizon with proof of my stay and they rejected the appeal.
I contacted customer services who said that only the Pickering site manager could deal with parking, they messaged the manager after I had tried to phone several times to get no answer, they said the manager had received the email and woukd be in touch.
Forward 10 days and still no contact from them.
I phoned customer services again who eventually put me through to the hotel "manager" who was rude, told me it was my fault and that it was not the responsibility of staff to inform guests of the need to register their car, it's up to guests to see and read the signage, accused me of shouting (I wasn't) and hung up.
Now what if I was unable to read the signage? Is it such a big ask for staff to remind guests to sign their car in? Should this not be automatic at check in rather than a seperate device?
I'm totally appalled by this and won't be staying there again.

"Premier experience at Pickering"
Perfect location for the railway ,literally 5 min drive away .
Easy to find location.
Friendly reception upon arrival, free parking just pop number plate into iPad.
Clean and tidy reception area ,several vending machines and extra tea, coffee ect point for the rooms.
Room was light and airy ,fully controlled heating / air-conditioning,we turned it off as i like it cooler!.
Coffee machine, kettle, fridge with free water included in premier room.
Large tv with free view
Large bathroom with beautiful fragrance shower gel and hair wash .powerful shower with piping hot water ,be careful ! Plenty fresh, clean ,thick towels.
Hair dryer, iron with board ( never used!)
My only criticism is that the windows don't open at all, obviously a safety point but there must be some contraption that let's it open a few inches ! The bed was comfy ,and advertised as such ,its not home tho so I never sleep as soundly whenever I go away ,nice crisp bedding and a choice of pillow . Spotlessly clean .Right food! We opted to eat in the hotel restaurant, booking a table was straight forward with the helpful staff.
We were told about the meal deal option, so you get a 2 course dinner and a bottomless breakfast each starting at 27£ ,we had a 8oz steak and a mixed grill ,2 pints of coke ,and 2 sundaes for dessert ( always dessert over starters for us!) Bit of a surcharge on both but the total was £62 and pennies ,2 x 2 courses plus 2 breakfasts, bargain!!!
My steak was delicious, cooked to perfection ( blue) so warmed up really!! Mushroom, tomato ,peas and skin on fries plus pepper sauce.other half had the grill and he demolished it all ! Steak, gammon, chicken, sausage, 2 eggs, peas, mushroom, tomato and fries all disappeared, I knew it was good as he was silent !! Sundaes we went for apple and blackberry crumble and a dairy milk chocolate one ,my fruit one was exquisite and misters disappeared rather quickly too! Breakfast i had toast, fresh fruit with yogurt, scrambled egg, beans, hash brown, all lovely quality and perfectly cooked and presented, endless juice, hot drinks available, we had orange .other half had a full English, a tangerine and then a bowl of yogurt and a muffin ,bit of a weird combo but we thoroughly enjoyed every bit ! Breakfast area was constantly being topped up and tidied by efficient and friendly staff. Check in was from 3pm and out you get until 12 midday which was perfect for us.All in all we had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back and have no hesitation recommending this hotel to anyone.

"Shocking service and restaurant was a joke"
Half the menu was unavailable. Gave us a list of things we couldn't order. Then we decided on something else only to be told they are out of stock too and i can't order those. Took 25 mins to take our order. 1 group of three in the dining room except myself and husband at that point. Staff stood talking and laughing while we were waiting for our drinks.
Would have been nice to be told about the availability issues before we sat down not just have a bit of paper put on the table without speaking to us. Most of the stuff we couldn't order were the new items which you are advertising.
Staff can be heard chatting and laughing from the dining room while people are lined up waiting for tables and drink orders be taken.
Shocking considering how much we are paying. We also were told the first night we couldn't have dinner as people with meal deals hadn't checked in yet. Tables left empty. So we had to buy a co op sandwich and eat it in our car.
Half the starter came out then the mains (which were missing chips. We did say we were still waiting for another starter. She put the mains down and went to check on them. Later found out that they hadn't even put the order in and as for the missing chips i have no idea what was going on there.) then when we had almost finished mains the missing starter and the missing chips came out. Not a sorry nothing just put them on the corner of the table and walked away.
Just when i thought things couldn't get worse we saw the server with short red hair seating people taking orders and bringing out food eating. Not once but at least three times. She was chewing while delivering food! We spent two hours in the restaurant and when we left there was so many people waiting for food.
When we got the bill we were trying to flag someone down to pay after 30 minutes of servers making eye contact with either me or my husband and still not coming across i got fed up and went to the bar to pay.
I went to complain to the manager who just said sorry. Didn't seem bothered at all. When i brought up the bill issue she said "oh you have to pay at the bar." How was i meant to know that? Never was told that. Doesn't say that on the receipt.
Shocking!!!!

"Enjoyed our 1 night stay"
Lovely premier inn with outstanding staff!! Very busy place seemed full whilst we were there
The food looked amazing value and the staff worked extremely hard delivering great customer service!!
One negative was the wall in the bathroom next to the toilet had many ‘dried runs’ on it clearly urine which had not been spotted and cleaned!!!
Other than that bed was very comfy pillows too!!

"Not Again"
good site but let down by unemptied rubbish bin allowing rubbish to blow large over car park. See Photo. Check in easy but reception toilets cleaning schedule not met. Only cleaned at 6 am and not cleaned again until 6am next day. another example of poor housekeeping. See Photo. Premier Plus room was acceptable but the bathroom water pressure very low. Also the shower over the high bath was unsafe and dangerous for the elderly and/the infirm. Should be a walk in shower. See Photo It took 10mins to be seated for the meal as the severs were occupied talking to who I thought to be guest at the bar. More on him later. Once seated another 20mins to take the order and another 20mins to deliver the food, which was tasty. Other guest were gazing around looking for servers or food all evening but the restaurant was not even half full. Breakfast was self service so no hiccups there - I hoped! A notice on the pass warned of hot surface - but not hot food!! bacon cold, sausage cold, scrambled egg like rubber and cold, hash browns lukewarm, mushrooms cold and barely cooked. Totally unacceptable. Tried next day to be earlier 7am hoping that the food may be hotter. Arrived more in hope than expectation only to have my hopes dashed by same cold food.
As I retired at about 11pm, I noticed a member of staff, who I now know to be the housekeeper, stood by the outside overflowing waste bin joking about the bin and then ignoring it. Passing through the reception, I noticed the aforementioned member of staff-seen talking to the bar staff earlier, curled up on a settee reading a book!! It seemed that the entire hotel is understaffed to the detriment of the guests. Long waiting times for food, lack of cleaning and suspect hygiene protocols all point to a lack of supervision and shortage of staff.
All in all an unpleasant experience unlike other Premier Inns I have visited.
I will not be visiting again
