Torquay Seafront hotel

We’ve stayed here before and always enjoyed it. Right on the seafront and plenty of eating places close by if you don’t want to eat at the beefeater. It’s a slightly strange layout where the main building is connected to the annexe by a long passageway but you do get used to it. We stayed during the recent ‘heatwave’. There is no air con in the rooms, we’ve never known air con there apart from in the corridors. Room was searingly hot, no fan. Told by reception they don’t automatically provide fans, although she did get me one (after saying she’d see if she could find me one). It would have been a deal breaker if not. No way could we have stayed in the room without a fan. Other hotels provide them during the summer. I don’t like the parking. Reception tell you to pay when you leave the car park. Usually you pay when you park, or at least get a ticket and pay at a barrier on exit, but with this method of paying at the machine when you exit the car park, I worry I’ll forget and the spectre of a fine is always looming. Why not just be able to pay upfront for however many nights or even just pay for 24 hours when you park, much easier. Seemed like reception was understaffed at times.

We have stayed at many Premier Inn’s before, however this one is not great! I personally didn’t feel the staff were welcoming when we first arrived, we also had an issue with the TV and when you have young children, that’s a big deal. A member of staff came up to the room, couldn’t deal with the issue, mentioned maintenance person is not back until Monday, but he would ring, well that’s the last we heard! Room is not a typical Premier Inn style and is very dated. I know it’s not the hotels fault, but the stairs are questionable, even for an abled body person. On a more positive note, the location of the hotel is great, beds were comfortable, but I certainly wouldn’t return or recommend.

Cleanliness and room terrible - do not state in room 117! I room hadn’t been cleaned to an adequate standard - pubic hair in sink, grime in many places of the bathroom and double layers of dust everywhere. They hadn’t even cleaned behind the bin so many cherry stalks and pips and other dust behind it. Toilet didn’t flush properly. Room was very small and outdated - worst room we have EVER stayed in! Food in beefeater apart from breakfast was appalling - had to queue for food / drinks order to be taken and longest was 15 mins. They don’t clear tables frequently and the whole grounds look tired and messy. Lift had lots of grime handprints in it and hadn’t been cleaned in the 4 days we were there. Really shocking place, Car parking terrible - 240 rooms and only circa 50 spaces which were mainly taken up for blue badge (which is fine) but also workmen with big vans and Lorrys. Lots of traffic noise in the room we stayed in. Breakfast was good and bed was comfortable.

Ground floor twin room was perfect for me and my sister. Clean, very quite and the only issue was not enough tea and coffee. Breakfast was full and plenty to eat and drink. No issues with the carpark. I think I will be back.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Booked a premier plus room and found that my room was good. It was clean and a good size. I really liked the style of the building and the beer garden & terraces which is what made me book this hotel. Although, as i was looking around, i felt it was a shame that the upkeep on the premises wasn't really kept up to its full potential. The building itself is actually really beautiful but needs a new paint job. The grounds and terraces i felt wasnt looked after enough. Some more plants and landscaping need attention. Rubbish not being picked up and random old umbrellas just lying on the floor rather than stored. Random old tables & chairs just scrapped but not hidden or disposed of. Just get rid of them all if you're not using them, its making you look lazy. Not only that, it's not a great sight to look at out your bedroom windows. Have a tidy up and deep clean, then it will be better. I was thinking about doing it myself at one point. The tables in the restaurant were sticky. I found the service from all members of staff very good and they did work long days i noticed. They were all polite and friendly. Please pass on my thanks to them for their customer service. The food was also very nice and came to our table quickly. After all my points above, it wouldn't stop me from staying again. I liked it here. Just please tidy up. Its such a beautiful building.
