"A Great location and view Excellent room facilities and comfort."
Excellent location with a view from many rooms. Walking distance to transport network and boat trips. Excellent room facilities, comfort and very clean. Very good value for money . Would prefer more twin room options. Breakfast choices and quality was good but more focus on healthier options (e.g quality fresh fruit and low/zero fat dairy) would enhance the experience.
"A mixed bag... Some positives, some negatives..."
First impressions were not great; it took 30 mins to check in and at one point the line of guests stretched out the front door of reception! For some reason there are no self check in screens available which seems bizarre; if ever a hotel needs them, it is this one..... After finally checking in we made the long walk to our Premier Plus room (sea view) which is in the annex of the hotel. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room; it was much larger than any other Premier Inn room I have stayed in and it benefitted from dual aspect windows which actually opened (albeit limited by the safety catches). It was great to actually be able to open the windows which is often not the case in Premier Inns. It was also helpful given the limited effectiveness of the air con. The air con in many Premier Inns is often limited in its effectiveness due both to the minimum temperature setting (19C) and fan speed, but it was even worse here due to the relatively large size of the room. Thankfully, it was not a particularly warm night outside and with the windows open I had a comfortable night's sleep. Another benefit of the room was the walk-in shower in the room. This was excellent and looked very new, working perfectly. This Premier Inn is the first I have stayed in with a Beefeater restaurant. It was ok and the food was reasonable, but it was very busy and the room felt a bit cramped. The staff worked very hard and were rushed off their feet. Arguably, management need to look at recruiting more staff to support colleagues. Being a Beefeater, the bar area was more substantial and had a wider range of drinks available compared to many Premier Inns, but overall I would suggest the Thyme restaurants found in many Premier Inns are preferable to Beefeater. Overall the hotel was fine, but it needs updating and smartening up in certain areas, particuarly to the exterior of both the main building and the annex.
"Great one night stay"
Lovely stay in Torquay premier inn. Comfortable bed and lovely room, could just see the sea from the bedroom window. Had a great breakfast and dinner deal with the room. Lovely drink in the beer garden looking at the sea.
"Not recommended"
This hotel is well positioned overlooking the bay but check in staff attitude and car parking problems marred our stay. I would recommend you look for a hotel with sufficient car parking facilities and more helpful staff.
"Very nice!"
Stayed here for a couple of nights at the end of June and it was quite nice. I have stayed in a good number of Premier Inn's over the years, so knew what to expect, but this was by far the biggest i have stayed in. This is hotel is meant to be a 'Premier inn Plus' hotel yet you cannot tell as its room was the same as a standard Premier Inn, nothing extra in any of the rooms. Apart from the comfy bed and the option of a bath, everything else is pretty much basic. I was hoping for a room with a sea view but got a room on the side of the building with a hint of the sea (see pic attached). The table/desk in the room looked like it had knocked up by someone with limited DIY skills as the edge was a bit on the rough side. The TV, couple of things to point out, (though this may differ from room to room), there is no tv guide on it like most Premier Inn tv's, so unable to see in advance what is on later on that day/night. Also the volume was set to not go past 23 (see pic attached), which was annoying as the volume was not that good, and on 23 you could just about hear it. The room was on the first floor, which was a family room, and better use could of been made with the excessive space in there. The reception can get quite busy - when we checked in we were in a queue of 3 people, with one or two standing behind us. It took 15 minutes to get checked in as only 1 person was on reception. The reception is quite dark - extra lighting is needed in there. The hotel is ideal if you wish to eat on the premises, though its not cheap! There is a Beefeater built on to the hotels side, and there is a good sized bar there with outside wooden table and chairs in their 'beer garden'. Parking is available at the hotel chargeable at £8 per night, which you pay at the machine opposite reception on your way out. There is very very limited free on-street parking available here as you are bang smack opposite the beach, however there is the odd few free parking spaces dotted around, mainly to the streets at the back of the hotel. The hotel is in a perfect location, across the road from the beach, 10/15 minutes walk to the left to the Marina/Torquay town centre. There are a few places close by to eat and drink, but your take-aways are more further afoot. To your right you have a lovely park and Torre Abbey and Paignton which is only just under 3 miles away. I walked it to Paignton, but if you wish to catch the bus, its the number 12 and it goes past the hotel.
