Leeds is a vibrant, modern city that’s well-known for its shopping, nightlife, sports and universities. Fun fact – people from Leeds are referred to as Loiners! The origin of this term is a bit of a mystery, thought it could derive from Loidis, which was the 8th century name for the area.

Leeds locals have a Yorkshire dialect, which you’ll also be able to hear in other northern cities like Sheffield and York. 

Leeds is a busy city, with an estimated population of around 780,000. If you fancy escaping the hustle and bustle of the city centre, the northern boundaries of the Peak District are less than an hour’s drive away!

Leeds as a village actually dates back to Anglo-Saxon times, with a population of around 200 people by the time of the Doomsday Book in 1086. It officially became a town in 1207 and was upgraded to city status in 1893, following a boom in trade and entertainment venues opening in the area.

Leeds is one of the largest cities in the UK by population, and the city itself, as a Metropolitan borough, covers 213 square miles!

If you thought that Leeds Castle was in Leeds, don’t worry – you’re not the first! Despite what its name may suggest, Leeds Castle is actually in Kent, and definitely worth a visit on days out in Maidstone. The good news is that there are plenty of other historic attractions in Leeds UK including Harewood House with 100 acres of gorgeous gardens, and the charming Edwardian country estate, Lotherton Hall.

With a network of bus, train and tram services running throughout the city – plus local bike rental services and walking routes – you’ll find plenty of ways of getting around Leeds. The water taxi service that travels between Granary Wharf and Leeds Dock is an excellent way of viewing the historic waterfront. If you’re jetting off, Leeds Bradford Airport is just seven miles outside the city centre too, less than a 10-minute drive from our Leeds/Bradford Airport hotel.

Equipping our teams - providing our team members with all the equipment and sanitisers they need, as well as always operating in the safest way possible for our teams and guests.

A generous serving of safety - you can relax knowing that enhanced cleaning measures are in place throughout our restaurants. Tables are cleaned between visits and contactless payment is in place too, so you can dine safely and comfortably with us every time.

Clean on request - if you'd like your room cleaned during your stay with us, just let us know at reception and use the handy door hanger on the back of your door by 12pm each day.

Most Premier Inns have specially-adapted rooms allowing easier access for customers with disabilities. If there is no specially-adapted room available at the hotel of your choice, we will be happy to offer you alternative accommodation at a nearby Premier Inn. If you have difficulty walking, but do not need a specially-adapted room, please feel free to request a room near reception on the ground floor for easy access.
