"Great Stay and Food"
I overnighted in the city following a medical procedure and the Premier Inn was the cheapest and best option at the time of booking. Ideally I would have stayed at another of their locations a few miles away as this was nearer to where I needed to be, however this was more expensive at the time of booking, but came down in price nearer the date (overall it wasn’t much more in the end with taxi fares considered) and I took advantage of a free breakfast offer through booking direct with the company. It was a little pricey for a ‘budget’ chain at £82 for a non-flex room, but generally the best option for what I needed and was a Saturday night booking. When I checked in there were no receptionists visible and I had to use the self-service check-in which was okay, but unfortunately my key card didn’t work and was on one of the top floors. The lifts had a fault that meant they ran slower than usual, which caused a small delay but once I returned to the lobby I was able to get help from the staff. Once I did manage to get into the room, everything was clean, amenities and choice of pillows available and walk-in shower. Great view of the railway station sidings from my west-facing room window and city from the south side corridor. I had dinner in the on-site restaurant and took advantage of the £16 two-courses and a drink deal, no pre-booking necessary. The waiting staff were very friendly and the food was great, you get what you pay for but very good value in these times! Next morning breakfast was a very generous all-you-can-eat buffet with Full English, cereals, pastries etc included in my booking as part of the offer I used, again all the food was nice and the staff were super friendly. Many thanks to everyone at the hotel for a lovely stay!
"Inside is better than outside!!"
This hotel doesn't look much from the outside, but inside its great. Very convenient for the train station and parking is close by. The weekend parking at the Train station is very reasonable (Total of £9.50 from Friday evening to midnight on Sunday). Only a few mins walk into town centre.
"4/5 for bathroom cleanliness and time taken to check in"
The room was clean and the beds were comfy, in a good location too - 3 min walk from train station and we didn’t hear any road noise from the 7th floor. However the bathroom was a bit smelly, and the fan to get rid of condensation on the mirror was really poor. The self check in machines don’t work before 3pm and we had early check in at 11am. We had to wait around 15 minutes for a worker to appear at reception who then told us there might not be a room ready for us. She then went away to check and took around 10 minutes before coming back and thankfully there was one ready. We didn’t have any food so couldn’t comment on that. Overall I would stay again :)
"Good hotel let down by under-staffing "
The service at breakfast wasn't amazing. They were clearly very short staffed with only 1 or 2 staff trying to clear tables and manage people arriving. I later saw plates and dishes stacked on a corner table waiting to be cleared. In the end, the staff member told me to go ahead and have my breakfast, and I could pay afterwards. There was no scrambled egg. After I'd had my breakfast I looked for the staff member but couldn't find her. Instead I went to reception and stood there for 10 minutes but nobody came. Fortunately she did catch up with me. Despite being very pleasant to speak to, it's clear the botel is under-resourced. Not the front line staff's fault. In addition the lifts are very slow, and sometimes you can stand there for 5 minutes or more waiting for a lift. Needs improvement.
"More attention to detail required."
Great Location! Met by a Team Member who had a little "attitude" which was not the best welcome. One of the key cards did not work: seemed too much like hard work for them to issue another? Premier Plus Room: no teabags, blood (or some similar stain) on Pillow and light fitting hanging from the ceiling!! if this is the "PLUS" rooms you can keep them. Breakfast was as expected and the Team at Breakfast were super friendly. So, in need of some attention but overall OK.
