"Great Location"
This Premier Inn is the perfect location for visiting Portsmouth and Southsea without needing the car. Rooms are a good size and clean with lovely views of the dockyard and we got a great night's sleep in the middle of a heatwave due to great air-conditioning. Only gave a 4 as check-in was chaotic and we were not shown the reduced parking tickets.
"Very convenient for the Historic Dockyard"
A midweek break and quite expensive, but we chose the location as it was directly opposite the Historic Dockyard where we would spend most of our time. Glad we upgraded to a Premier Plus Double with a View, as it actually overlooked the dockyards and was very quiet. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. We decided against using the upgraded WiFi to avoid creating yet another login and the free wifi was slow but adequate for our needs. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast catered well for allergies but, as ever, a buffet style cooked breakfast is never the same as a freshly made one. The hotel is close to the Harbour railway and bus stations, and there were regular buses running in the evening to and from Southsea for access to more pubs and restaurants. It's also a short walk to Gunwharf Quays, if that's what floats you boat.
"First PI Experience - Probably Won't Repeat"
I have noted how popular Premier Inns are with many Tripadvisor travelers, but have never booked one previously. This hotel in Portsmouth Harbor had better reviews than several other local options, so it seemed the time to try one out. We stayed for 5 nights. Pros - Staff - very good, welcoming, professional, gracious. Clean, I can't complain here. Deep bath tub for soaking. Location perfect for Dockyards visits, train and bus connections, Gunwharf Quay shops and restaurants. Cons - Breakfast, we had continental only - not good. Stale pastries, fresh fruit was spoiled or bruised. WIFI was so slow I resorted to cell. Decor - nonexistent. The room became depressing. Beds - two, both uncomfortable leading to backaches for both of us. No room amenities - no body lotion, no tissue/Kleenex. Toilet paper was substandard. Service on request only - that's OK, but I wish the policy had been pointed out at check-in. (Yes, there are signs to ask for service by the elevators, but I initially missed these.) I am not typically a luxury traveler, neither am I typically budget. For the price, this Premier Inn was a good value, but next time, I would prefer to pay a bit more and have something more than bare bones.
"A very good experience"
We stayed overnight and found it a very good Premier Inn. Staff were excellent and no problem with our rooms. It was very clean.. Breakfast next morning was very good. The hotel is very near to the dockyard and the Spinnaker Tower. Gunwarf Quays also a few minutes walk.
"Bad experience at Portsmouth Premier Inn"
The room and bathroom were dirty and we had to ask for the room to be hovered. We did not realise how dirty the bathroom was until we looked behind the door the next morning. The bed linen did not feel very fresh and we were horrified to find we had been bitten in the night by bed bugs or some form of insect. We had to come home and wash and disinfect everything from our suitcase.
