Exmouth Seafront hotel

Excellent location but with current building work very difficult to have any view or lay in due to noise A bit expensive but we did stay I the summer holidays so knew it would cost more

I booked an accessible room six months in advance. The day before my stay I was advised my room had been given to someone else and I had been allocated a standard room with a walk in shower. The room I was given only had a bath and wasn’t big enough for my wheelchair. The onsite staff were excellent and the breakfast was the best I have had in a premier inn. Very well located, right on the seafront.

As regular users of Premier Inns for holidays, with 3 bookings this year alone, we were looking forward to returning to Exmouth. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. We had been warned that "your view may either be restricted or blocked due to scaffolding covering our building", What Whitbreads failed to declare, and which they were well aware of at least 5 weeks prior to our stay, is that the whole front of the building had had to be removed and not only was it covered in scaffolding but the front was wrapped in protective material, One of our main reasons for booking Exmouth was the opportunity of a sea view room. As a consequence of the on-going work all the sea view rooms had been closed off, so there was never any chance of us being allocated one. Had we known this in advance we would have cancelled. However, we didn't discover this until we arrived when we ended up in room 119 overlooking the car park, at the rear of the building, and with a restricted view due to the scaffolding. Without fear of contradiction this is probably the worst room in the Premier Inn, It was pokey, dingy (we had to have the light on permanently whilst in the room), and is was situated on the angle of two sides of the building. Whilst the bed was flat against the wall it was on an angle inside the room, so trying to get round the bed past the desk and chair was difficult. The hanging wardrobe could only be accessed from the side nearest the window due to the proximity of the desk. The room had a shower and not bath as requested. The shower floor as you stepped in, once wet from one person having a shower, was lethal. There might have been some point to asking us to reuse our towels if there had been anywhere to hang them to dry, but one rail, big enough to hold a hand towel, was all that was on offer. We also were clearly expected to share a bath and hand towel as that was all that was initially provided. We have made a formal complaint to Whitbreads and other than a holding reply, telling us how busy they are during high occupancy season, we have yet to receive a reponse to our request for a 50% refund. We were one of eight different guests booking in on Sunday 12th July and all complained. If you have booked this Premier Inn, or are thinking of doing so, cancel or don't book, until at least October, when according to the contractors the work is scheduled for completion, or risk suffering the same fate as we did. We were offered a cancellation once we'd seen our room, but having travelled 125 miles to get to Exmouth, we were hamstrung to accept what was on offer or, face another 125 mile journey home and no holiday. The Premier Inn banner on the exterior of the building stating "Open as usual during our improvements" and the advert on TV stating "You know what you're getting with Premier Inn" is somewhat of a misnomer in both instances.

Scaffolding around building which we were told about before we arrived but after we had paid nearly £700 I had booked and paid before arrived but then had to pay extra on arrival because price had increased Premier Inn breakfast buffet is not worth what you pay, do yourselves a favour and get breakfast elsewhere or take your own We have stayed in so many premier inn hotels before but I dont think I will again after this 1

***Review of Breakfast *** 3 of us had a lovely breakfast at Exmouth's Premier Inn. We were disappointed that it wasn't a buffet - as it said on the website. Apart from that - everything was just right. Tasty and reasonably priced food. Quick and helpful service.
