Caerphilly Crossways hotel

We were only in the area for an overnight (weekend) stay so didn't need much but be aware they are building an extension on to what appears to be the annex (where our room was). Building work is Mon-Fri so we had it quiet - I expect there will be a lot of noise weekdays during the day, so if this is an issue then got for the other local Premier Inn nearby Room was very good - seemed to be a later format room with Air-Con (so windows don't open), with shower instead of a bath (not problem for us) Hotel itself seems fine despite the building work (new annex is being built on the car park area so guests are told to use the Brewers Fayre car park instead (we parked OK not too far away but from the furthest reaches its a possible trek to the rooms) They have recently closed down the Pub/Restaurant (former Brewers Fayre) and the food/drink is now an issue. On the weekend we stayed the restaurant was closed so you need to sort yourself out with an alternative if you want to eat. Breakfast was a miserable experience - limited supply and what was there looked like it could have been there for hours - cold plates didn't help it either. The continental selections seemed a bit scattered - had to look around to find what was there It was also very quiet - for a hotel that was full breakfast was virtually empty! Maybe word got round how bad it was - Usually PI breakfast rooms are pretty lively!

Room 107 was disgustingly, black mould all over the bathroom. Not once in the time spent there we saw a cleaner. The only helpful person in the place was the very nice Bartender in the inn next door, which had as much atmosphere as a funeral parlour!!

Hotel was ok but the food in pub next door was shockingly bad very few drinks available and looked run down

The room was amazing very clean and shower was perfect we had a lovely time in family room it was just what we needed and the staff was fantastic

Staff were friendly. There were works going on in the grounds of the hotel, but this wasn’t bad for us, and there was plenty of room to park. The brewers fayre had friendly and efficient staff both for dinner and breakfast. And the food was nice. The next parts are criticisms but I’m not sure how the hotel could have fixed it. I didn’t complain to staff at the time either, so take what I say as you want. It’s not their fault, and the description does say, but the lack of air con in our room meant a very uncomfortable night and we struggled to have the window open as well because we could smell smoke (wildfires nearish). There was also noise from the housing estate over the road. The provided fan just moved hot air around.
