"Good stay"
Very clean room good nights sleep check in was easy done by machine overall no issues and would stay here again Toby restaurant next to it for evening meals and drinks Breakfast was available in premier inn Very central for Livingston and area
"A bit disappointing"
I've stayed in a lot of Premier Inns and unfortunately this one had a few things that would not encourage me to go back. Yes it is is conveniently located and the rooms are as expected from a Premier Inn. Clean and comfortable and everything you needed. Check in was OK and breakfast was the usual Premier Inn buffet self service. But there are buts..... Mobile phone reception is very poor and the wifi was next to useless. However you had the option to pay for a 'fast' connection. Premier Inn must know it's in a mobile dead spot and should help people keep connected and not charge then when their own standard wifi is no good. The car park gets very full with trade vehicles, it is clearly a very popular tradesman hotel and the trade vehicles including transits, long wheelbase vans and even a coach meant that parking was not easy. The cost seemed far too much for a non city centre hotel. Over £150 including breakfast. So although I like the Premier Inn brand, this one is not for me.
"Mixed Feelings"
Young lad at check in was amazing, after a long drive from Somerset through never ending motorway spray and rain, his smile made a lovely welcome. (As personal preference I do not like the self check in) Lovely room, (premier room), excellent view, immaculate, clean, excellent sleep, lovely shower, well appointed furnishings, the floor as you exit the lift for the premier rooms definitely cover the "first impressions" well. Outstanding Location, I am originally from the area so I know how central it really is. Big car park. Security getting to your room is excellent, similar systems are in use across Europe. Hotel is immaculate, and generally well looked after. Now for the "Big But" Other than the young man at check in the staff do not smile, and dont greet you, in fact feels like there is an atmosphere of discontent. Breakfast not great, continental is all bread and cereal, limited fruit, and a few yogurts, so not really continental, but an interpretation of continental, staff constantly in the way, also having to be told to man the breakfast desk from across the other side of the room. Hubby said his cooked breakfast was okay. Circumstances beyond their control meant they had run out of bacon. I know they are most likely trying to save money and food waste, but it has put me off booking breakfast with Premier inn for future visits, in case this is the new thing becomes a thing. The breakfast environment is similar to a budget hotel you will find across Europe, and already the walls need a lick of paint, and the skirting boards need cleaned. We travel back to Scotland regularly, always use premier inn, (usually M8 Livingston) and though we most likely use the Bathgate hotel again, because there is no difference in distance for us, the family are well spaced across Livingston. I will be going next door to Toby Carvery for my breakfast tomorrow, even though we have prepaid breakfast. We recommended my daughter who is staying as well, to just go next door this morning. Overheard the lady behind me in the breakfast queue telling the children they weren't gong to breakfast till she had complained about her room, I have a feeling similar will be coming from the not so family room my daughter is in with her three children.
"Overall poor experience"
Staff friendly but hotel facilities let it down. Parking is very limited and we could not get parked at 10pm as there were no spaces left, with many being used by work vans. We had to park elsewhere and didn’t feel safe leaving our car there. Also really dissatisfied with the room itself. We had no idea there would be a door in our room which led to another room, albeit it was locked. The door was paper thin and we could hear the next door customers TV, even though it wasn’t at a high volume. This made us uncomfortable as we felt we couldn’t speak at a normal volume since they would hear us. This type of room not being mentioned in the booking details is extremely off putting and I think you should be aware you’re going to have this type of room which we weren’t. Breakfast was also worst we’ve had from the Premier Inn chain - very hard, dry, and seemed like it had been sitting out for quite some time. Really disappointing. Housekeeping and staff were friendly but unfortunately above issues meant we won’t return.
"It was not possible to get a good night's sleep and it was very expensive."
It was not possible to sleep before midnight and after 6am. The floors creak badly and if you aren't on the top floor you will be disturbed until late on, and then again from an early hour. The walls are very thin and if you have an adjoining door to your room the neighbours may as well be in with you! It was very expensive when we went too.
