"Nice hotel in great location."
Had a pleasant 3 night stay. Location was perfect. All staff were friendly and on hand for extra towels cups etc. Quiet room on the second floor. Two proper single beds. Nice hot powerful shower. It was over a bath instead of walk in but was no problem. Premier inns no longer service rooms as standard you have to request it, which we didn’t bother but did mean the bin was overflowing in the end. Also they only offer caffeinated tea no decaf options. Again not a problem but good to know so can bring your own if decaf is needed. That being said you could help yourself in reception to as many tea bags and milks as you wanted. Overall a good stay and would recommend especially as they are usually cheaper than the competition which makes up for some elements being more basic.
"Central, clean, safe lodging near train station"
OK let's get this out of the way--as with all their properties, service is mostly nonexistent as staff is never around. That said, this was a pretty good option since it is close to the train station and the shopping center, with dozens of dining options, and also near two churches. The main sights are an easy walk, including the famous castle. Moreover, the front desk clerk took pity on me when I once again was assigned a noisy room near the elevator (other two hotels were not this chain) and gave me a free upgrade so I'd have a quieter room. That was much appreciated by this weary traveler. Housekeeping was efficient and the entrance is by room card only late at night for security purposes (area is safe, however). My only quibble is the day I was checking out, I was running a minute or two late at 12 noon and heard this weird melodious tone in my room for a full minute. I thought it was a not too subtle reminder that I was late, but when I went down to the front desk I was told it was just the regular weekly testing of the fire alarm. I didn't know that so it was disconcerting, plus I would have burned in the room as no one came through checking to see if we were exiting. This was a first. Anyway, this hotel is an acceptable choice if you don't need much "hand holding" from staff during your stay and I would probably stay again.
"Great location, comfortable and pleasant stay. Would recommend and return."
Clean rooms, comfortable beds, relaxing atmosphere and very good customer service especially from Junior on the reception. Also my parents got a Premier Inn plus room with was an accessible room with walk in shower which was great for them as the baths seem to be higher than a normal bath to get in and out of shower in a normal room.
"Disappointing stay"
We stayed at Premier Inn, York Place from 5/14-20/25. Or experience was disappointing. The location is great and we were able to walk to most attractions in Edinburgh. However, many issues made this an unpleasant stay. our room was dirty- mold in shower, stained carpet. We requested cleaning on Day 3 which was not done even though the housekeeper signed off that it had been done. Sheets were too short for the bed. I emptied trash twice and got fresh towels at the desk. We had a lukewarm breakfast included. The restaurant was closed for renovations on May 18 leaving us with no breakfast on our last two mornings. I booked this hotel partly because they had a few gluten free offerings, which were not offered on the last two days. Staff said that all guests were advised of the closure by email. I did not receive an email. The staff (no name tags) was indifferent to our requests and the manager was never available. Finally, there is no security. Anyone can walk into the lobby and use the elevator to access the floors. The website says that there is 24 hour security. Premier Inn definitely let us down on our long-awaited trip to Edinburgh.
"Avoid"
Dirty rooms, unhelpful staff. Room never cleaned when requested and towels never replaced. Staff member signed off saying room cleaned. Manager never available. Staff member said manager was due in 7 am , another staff member said manager off for 3 days. No security , anyone could walk in off street. Hotel remodeled in 2024, marks on walls, stains on carpets.Mold in shower.
