Edinburgh City Centre (Waverley) hotel

A lovely hotel where we found kindness and helpfulness! We felt welcomed like at home. Our room was very big and had all the commodities needed. Breakfast is various. The staff is very kind, empathetic and helped us a lot. A lot of care is taken in case of allergies. We really enjoyed our staying and we already miss this place! Super recommended!

The hotel is about 10 minutes’ walk from the Edinburgh Waverly Station (there is one more Premier Inn nearby). It’s situated in a street away from the main road, which makes it quiet for good sleep. The room is rather basic and the services are minimal. For room cleaning, guests have to come down every day before noon to inform the reception. It’s hard to understand why they don’t accept a one-off request for room cleaning for the entire duration of stay.

It began with the kiosk not letting me check in. When I asked for help the employee just kept trying to redirect me to the kiosk. He did eventually check me in. I requested two keys, but was told they were low on key cards and could not issue a second card. Since a key is needed to turn on lights, tv, etc this was extremely inconvenient since I was sharing the room with a friend. I was given no info about breakfast, check out. The room had a double bed and a “sofa bed” as described on the website. The sofa bed however had no linens. I was told that I needed to have requested the bed be made up before checking in? I asked them to give me a sheet and a duvet but they refused. I have never met a staff so unwilling to do the basics. After the initial exchange everyone became hostile. We were refused service in the restaurant because they were expecting a large party. When I checked back the “large party” was a table of 10 or so. I’ve also attached pictures of the mold in the bathroom. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

This is a lovely little hotel with everything you need! A quick walk to the Waverly train station made our day train trips a breeze. The bridge by the train station gives easy access to the new parts of the city. The staff was very helpful and fun. A full English breakfast is available along with lots of other choices. We had dinner in the restaurant twice and it was fine. I would gladly stay here again!

This was the worst Premier Inn we have ever experienced and we have stayed at many over the years. As a result we have decided we will never stay at another. The “welcome” we received from the receptionist on the afternoon of May 27 was zero. The man was disinterested and disengaged. We noticed on entering that the lower lobby and 1st floor needed a good clean/vacuum. Once in our room it looked surface clean but the floor was filthy as was the armchair in the room. We did not feel comfortable removing our shoes and walking on the floor. My husband put down a clean towel over the stained armchair to sit down. The towel picked up some gross staining as a result. The breakfast was ok but there weren’t enough staff and the lady there was run off her feet. Despite this she was pleasant to the guests. Good for her. This location needs to be closed down for a complete refurbishment.
