"Outstanding service!"
Great service from Susie the hotel manager, thank you! We were very well looked after. The hotel is in a great location close to Waverley station and the Royal Mile. Comfy beds as always at a Premier Inn.
"Rooms are perfect, staff is not"
Location: spot on, perfect. The room was also good . We had the Premier Plus Double room. Nice bathroom area, excellent bed, wifi was good and silent in the nights. No complaints there. Experience with the staff was a bit different. They didn't seem interested in their job. When commenting on 2 different music types being played at the same time during breakfast, just got a reply: yea the cooking-area has it's own music on. Yea, I figured that out myself but was hoping for a solution.
"Low-cost hotel for twice the price"
Location was great and breakfast was good enough for this kind of hotel. However, several things made the experience quite bad : - Personnel is overall non-welcoming, cold, sometimes impolite (do not say hi while weirdly looking at you passing by them, do not smile...) - Reception desk was empty pretty much everytime we needed something and the call buttons do not work, so you always have to wait for someone to pass by (roughly 10 minutes in average) - No room cleaning by default so you have to ask for anything : bodywash top-up, toilet paper, new towels... it's said to be for ecological reasons while obviously for economical ones as making a bed + vacum cleaning pretty much only cost working time, and an empty bottle of bodywash will have to be refilled eventually... would be acceptable if the hotel was low-cost and if there were people keeping the reception desk... which is unfortunately rare - Standard Wi-Fi is pretty bad, and I don't understand how making a paying "Premium Wi-Fi" is still a thing in a 2025 hotel when even airlines manage to go to free unlimited Wi-Fi - A/C has erratic functioning. Control panel is pretty easy to use however the actual system does not react instantly, like if it couldnt be operated at certain times independently if you are in the room or not - Low cost bathroom with only fixed shower heads (for boarding military school nostalgics), no towel hanger near the bathtub (except the one inside the bathtub itself which obviously get your towel all wet...) Basically, a low-cost hotel for twice the price as title says
"Looking a little tired in places. Breakfast on a couple of days was... interesting"
Stayed on 4th floor with view over Waverley station. Nice and quiet. WiFi fiddly - best to turn off mobile data in order to stay connected. Room looking a little tired - leather on headboard and swivel chair fraying. Grouting on bathroom floor very amateurish. Biggest issue was the breakfast chef who refused to do poached eggs, even though the machinery was now working after apparently being out of action for 2 days. He also had a penchant for playing rap music so loud it competed with the ambient music playing in the dining area. Other staff were great (including the other chef (chinese?) who was very helpful. Apart from this the dining experience and the experience generally was OK. It's really the position of the hotel that sells it though.
"Meh...."
Check in - no one on reception but someone appeared to help as we couldn't get the screen check in to work. Room was clean enough, with towels. Bed was clean. Air con just about worked. Controls not great at all. Room had a view overlooking the homeless across the street ! Had asked reception that our room be made up each day - it wasn't the first day so asked for it to be made up the second day and it was. Breakfast - first morning breakfast was cold ! Cold eggs, bacon etc. The person in the kitchen appeared more interested in looking at hos phone. Second day breakfast was hot and person in kitchen commented they were keeping food in warmer ! Why not do this every day ?! No reason that Premier Inn staff can't provide a warm breakfast. Location - good. Close to Royal Mile. Not sure I would walk from hotel to royal mile alone at night. Check out - staff member managed to raise his head from mobile phone to tell us to put key card on counter. Overall - not sure I'd stay here again. Staff seem preoccupied with looking at their phones + generally not overly welcoming + happy. Attention to detail re: cold breakfast + not having room made up a let down. At £200 + per night I would have expected better !
