"Great central hotel"
Lovely hotel central to all attractions lovely and clean breakfast in connecting restaurant was great lots to choose from
"Standard Premier Inn, Poor Value For Money"
We stayed here for the Oasis gig on the saturday night. We had a family room which was quiet and comfortable but was nothing you wouldn't expect or see in any other Premier Inn in the country. Premier Inn need to revise their strict 3pm check in policy, which is obviously only in place to try and drain that little bit extra from peoples pockets, which when you've already paid nearly £350 for the room is a joke. As a result there were huge queues at check in time and this only serves to get people's backs ups. £15 for early check in is a rip off: If a room is ready before 3 then let people in, that way you get a steady flow of people rather then everyone arriving at once which the hotel clearly isn't equipped to deal with. Out of 3 check in booths only one was working at 3pm, the other was out of order and one simply displayed "check in from 3" despite it being well past that time. As another reviewer has mentioned it was a big odd to say the least that Oasis fans were targeted by the signs all over the hotel regarding behaviour, very odd indeed, I saw no similar signs at the hotels I stayed in for the Pulp or Shed Seven gigs recently , or in fact any other of the countless number of gigs I've ever been to in my lifetime. Overall its a decent place to stay: the hotel is in a good location and if you're lucky you might get a room with a castle view. Staff were fine as well, but I don't know how Premier Inn can charge £349 a night (standard Family room only) and keep a straight face. It's a total rip off, the room isn't worth anywhere near that but they know people travelling have to find somewhere to stay so the bump the prices up. Under normal Premier Inn pricing I'd be giving this 4-5 stars, but for the price we paid it simply doesn't justify it.
"Discriminatory Welcome"
We arrived on 8th August to be greeted by a notice attached to the front glass door which was only directed at guests who were attending the nearby Oasis concert. Therefore, the notice advocated the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people. The notice was also placed prominently at the hotel lift. It appears that this Premier Inn assumed that anyone attending the aforementioned Oasis concert, and only these guests, needed a reminder of how to conduct themselves. Location of the hotel is excellent, it is central for everything Edinburgh has to offer. Room was clean and tidy with the usual tea and coffee making facilities. Unfortunately, our room (Room 115) had no view at all, as the window had satin effect glass and was completely opaque. This meant that in order to gauge what the weather was like outside, we needed to go all the way to the hotel front door. However, this was a minor issue of inconvenience, as we were only using the room to sleep in and we had a very good nights sleep in the very comfortable bed. We used the attached Bar & Block restaurant for lunch and found it very reasonably priced, the steaks were delicious. We did not use the same restaurant for breakfast, as we wanted traditional Scottish breakfasts, so we went elsewhere. On checking out I enquired about the what I consider discriminatory notice, I wanted to understand if this was a Premier Inn policy, or an idea by local management. The lady I asked at reception replied to me with “It doesn’t matter whose idea the notice was”. So because of the notice and attitude of the lady at reception it has changed my mind about Premier Inn, a company I have used numerous times, and once trusted and respected. I don’t think I will be using this hotel again, and shall think twice about using Premier Inn for both business or leisure stays. After all there are plenty other hotels in the immediate area, and we did not see a single similar notice on any of their entrances.
"The high price doesn’t quite match the in-room facilities, though the location is a plus."
The location is great and the room is very spacious, but the hairdryer and showerhead are not convenient to use, the water pressure is too low, and the bathroom sink tends to get clogged sometimes, causing the water to drain slowly.
"An enjoyable stay"
Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent room and facilities. Splendid breakfast & excellent dinner. A very enjoyable experience.
